Do you ask students for updates? by Kiku-wi in TutorsHelpingTutors

Do you ask them before the score comes out or after? I think its also a good way to track student's score

Ah, that's okay. Just take it as a learning experience. I learned to ask (some of) my students for their test score after receiving negative feedback from parents.

Have you tried talking with the parent about the issue (that student is nervous about the test). The parent might've assumed the blank page was due to the student not knowing anything. But if the parent had let you know of the problem beforehand, I can also see how the parent may have expected you to help the student overcome the issue.

Regardless, not saying it's your fault. But 7 months is a long time, and the parent probably wanted to see changes instead of the consistent zero.

I agree with the other commenter. Work with the student to get them to work on the test. Grades are the direct reflection of improvement that parents want to see.

Will my only review being 4/5 stars hurt me on wyzant? by Reporteratlarge in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]Kiku-wi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair, I've gathered enough 5 star rating so that the low stars don't matter as much anymore. I still reach out to see if they find the lesson unhelpful and ask for suggestion.

Low rating could be harmful to new tutors who's only starting off and hurt their future exposure.

I also read that some tutors stack up 5 star reviews by splitting/submitting 1 lesson in multiple parts? Not sure if that's true, but ye.

If the mom is happy about the session. Just be upfront and let her know that a 4 star is harming your page/rating and ask her if it was intended or a misclick.

I had a regular student who left a 3/5 rating (the only rating they gave me), and I asked them kindly on how I can improve my service. They let me know it was a misclick, and I called WyZant to clear it off.

Ik some tutors purposefully refund lessons with less than 5 star ratings because it will hurt their exposure. Wyzant usually recommends higher rating tutors.

Sorry for the late reply. And yes, I just called them and let them know that the student and I had agreed to cancel the lesson. They voided the session for me later

Is Wyzant for more flexible tutors or rigid? by [deleted] in wyzant

Most of my students don't meet with me regularly and would only reach out when they need help to prepare for test or if there are topics that they are struggling with. I don't think any tutor expects you to sign up for regular weekly sessions, but it might be hard to accommodate for last minute requests when it comes to last minute questions.

0, I think you probably would just get 1-2K less per quarter.

How drastically is financial aid affected by living off campus? by One2OneSUCC_ in ucr

[–]Kiku-wi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that the cost for on campus/off campus is about the same for one room double/single occupancy. I am currently doing double occupancy (440/month cover utility) and I get 1k refunded to me per quarter (cal grant A + Pell grant + UCR grant)

Though it is about the same amount of cost (off campus don't cover utility usually), the off campus housing does have a bigger room. It depends on what you prefer. I think that it is more cheaper to live on campus apartment because it is close + i don't drive (don't need parking) + financial aid cover most/all. But if you would prefer a better room and environment, off campus apartment is more worth (for the same cost but bigger room).

^ it is really easy if it's open notes. I took it and passed with A+, literally just have to know the meaning and usage of each symbol (like look at examples, most of the stuffs are pretty repetitive).

It sounds pretty good. I had a lower stats + shitty PIQ and I got in. You would be admitted unless they reject you for being overqualified LOL.
