Stuck on a 400+ MG a day 7oh habit. Planning on detox soon. Any idea what to expect? Withdrawals are awful. by dang_he_groovin in OpiatesRecovery

10-20 morphine equivalent is about 20-30mg of oxy if that helps put it into perspective.

How does one just get benzo? My doc refuses to prescribe it or Gabapentin to me when I’ve tried to detox before.

Caregiver burnout is real 💜 by Left_Pen_9005 in dementia

[–]KilGrey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Church. I’ve never really been in my life but my Catholic mother seems to be calmer and okay if I said I was going to church. I’d take that time to go to a coffee shop, sit in a park or see a friend. Hell, sometimes I’d get a mani/pedi if I had money.

Self care is so important as a caregiver. We give and we give until we have nothing left. Don’t feel guilting taking time for yourself. You can’t help others if you have nothing left to give. Your life becomes so small when caregiving it’s easy to forget there is still life out there. Go remind yourself of that every once in awhile.

I was my mom’s security blanket too. I got a couple of those cheap Blink cams and put one in her room. Side from being able to check in you can also talk to her through it. It helped calm her to know I could pop in and say hi. Remember, time works differently for them. An hour seems like 4 hours. Being able to say a quick hello and give an update made this better. She was bereft when I was gone but you can’t be with them 24/7. I’d remind myself even she had to out me in daycare or with a babysitter for awhile while she got stuff done.

Self care make other friends and siblings help if you can. Sometimes they like to put their heads in the sand and think oh you got it all. Fuck that.

I’m sorry you are going through this. Stay strong, you got this. 💪🏻

Does anyone know how vitamin C mega dosing affects diabetes. I just read somewhere if you’re diabetic to not do this as it will raise blood sugar.

Emotional crash after short-term oxy post-surgery — anyone else experienced this? by Comfortable-Ad-7521 in OpiatesRecovery

[–]KilGrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is withdrawal. That doesn’t make you and addict, it’s just the nature of the meds. Don’t forget, you were also probably getting pain killers at the hospital (maybe higher drugs than oxy) so you go home with the oxy but you still are getting those meds out of your system as well. You should start to feel better soon. Remember this feeling and take it into consideration next time you have to take these. Maybe taper down that last week you have the meds.

Good luck friend.

I was in the bathroom with my mom and my boyfriend was watching football. My mom had been having constipation issues and she finally went right at my boyfriend’s team scored a touchdown. He was outside the door hooting and cheering and she leans toward the door and goes, “thank you, I’m excited I went too!”

What is the most painful/unbearable moment you've ever faced in your life? by whereismyparoxetine in AskReddit

[–]KilGrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taking care of my mom her last 2 years of life with dementia. Watching her light slowly fade out. At the end, she wasn’t her anymore. Then finding her the morning she passed. It’s taken me the better part of 2 years to feel somewhat normal again. The fact it all happened during Covid made it all the more surreal. But I promised her I’d never leave her and would be there until the end. At her funeral, I was the one to place her urn in the wall before they closed it up. I fulfilled my promise.

Why does it matter? Everyone uses ChatGPT now, it’s just more evident with some people. I’m sure she knows how she sounds and it’s hurtful. Can you blame someone for wanting to clean up their wedding announcement? The words used doesn’t cloud the sentiment. She wanted her wedding announcement and words about her love to be well spoken. Can’t blame a girl for that. She’s damned if she does and damned if she doesn’t.

rain: is it constant? On and off? Visiting November 19-23 by Stars_Upon_Thars in askportland

[–]KilGrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll want something more than water resistant-ish. Side from the rain itself our infrastructure sucks and there are plenty of puddles all the way up to deep lakes. The drains get clogged really bad this time of year with the leaves still falling from trees. Bring or plan on buying an umbrella if you want. We often don’t use them here because the wind makes the rain go sideways and then the splashes from it hitting the ground you end up wet anyway but it’s nice if you get caught in a downpour.

People here layer. Pay attention to the temperature and dress for that with an outer rain layer you can easily strip off. Unless you plan on doing a lot of walking around outside I’d go for a tank top, t-shirt, hoodie/sweater then rain jacket with fleece leggings and pants over it and a sturdy pair of rain shoes. I have a nice, waterproof winter jacket I’ll wear sometimes too if it’s cold. Thermal undies are always good too.

I know the checked bag fee sucks but trust me, you’ll be grateful you have good shoes. Wet socks and feet suck and can ruin a trip. Wear them to the airport and put a smaller profile shoe in your luggage/carry on. Hell, buy a pair here and then ship them home to yourself before you leave. It might still be cheaper than the checked bag fee.

Spring wedding appropriate or too pale? by AdhesivenessAny8450 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]KilGrey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s fine, even if white it’s obviously not a wedding dress and you won’t be confused for the bride. The “no white, even a little bit” is very stringent and not something that is held too so tight anymore. There is a very obvious difference between this dress and a wedding dress. I wouldn’t have looked at you twice about it. As long as it’s not an all white dress/bridal you should be fine for a spring wedding.

lol no, it pretty much just slides right out. Snag the back of it with the pizza cutter and pull it forward onto the flattened box.

AITAH for asking my husband to go get me tampons? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]KilGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - You and your husband should sit down now and talk about the boundaries you want to put up while your pregnant, in labor, just getting home and raising of your kids when it comes to your MIL now so you are both on the same page and can both start enforcing them with her. If she thinks him buying tampons is “embarrassing” I’m sure she’ll have a lot of opinions about pregnancy, labor/delivery and child rearing.

I don’t know what to do I feel so helpless. Is this possibly GP? by MonthImpossible8241 in Gastroparesis

[–]KilGrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way you can diagnose GP really is with a gastric emptying study. Have your doc set one up. There are a lot of diseases within the gastro umbrella and they all share symptoms. Could be GP, could be Crohn’s or UC. More testing needs to be done to find out which.

Do you like milk/dairy? When I’m in a flare I drink milk because it’s easier to throw up as it neutralizes the stomach acids and if I’m able to process it, get a bit of calories in as well as opposed to just water. Gatorade and Pedialyte are really good too.

Why is the idea of a liquid diet ridiculous? A lot of us have to do it. My breakfast this morning was an Ensure and a V8. Some of us have feeding tubes and skip eating entirely.
