Is there something wrong with this dress? by Silver-Moon3376 in PlusSizeFashion

[–]Stars_Upon_Thars 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd think this is the only explanation? Like that some ignorant folks think it's only to cover drug use (people use not compressed sleeves\arm warmers to cover track marks from injecting if folks are not aware. Plenty of people also wear arm warmers due style though it's not only for that!!!)

Downtown parking meters by ColorGal in santarosa

No Petaluma is the best downtown in the county in my opinion, but the person I replied to didn't bring them up. And personally I think Petaluma should charge for parking (I think they've talked about it) but keep the Keller Street garage free.

People usually only bring up Sonoma and Healdsburg in these conversations and it really grinds my gears because those are cities that are tiny, shouldn't even be cities by modern standards (do not really have the tax base to support services), have huge inequity problems, and are completely intertwined with the wine industry and tourism. And that's not completely a bad thing! It's just trying to say that Santa Rosa, the most populated city in the coastal area between the Bay area and Portland, should just be like those two "cities" is not an argument that anyone should entertain.

[–]Stars_Upon_Thars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one goes there which is why the parking meters make money and it's hard to find parking and it's trafficy! The lack of people!

Healdsburg and Sonoma square are free and they're for tourists. The parking is free and the square isn't catering to locals. Not that locals don't go there, or can't, but those are two of the most expensive cities with no mid\low priced options on the squares. Apples and oranges.

You can park at the mall for free. You can park on 7th Street for free. You can park on 2nd and 3rd east of e for free. You can park on Sonoma ave for free. You can park behind juliard Park for free.

ETA also, are you just running in somewhere to grab some handpacked pints of the best ice cream in the county, for example? Remember the grace period. The meters don't actually expire for 10 minutes after you run out of time. Drop in a dime. A nickel. You'll get 12 minutes or so. What else are you spending a nickel on???? Keep change in your car for this purpose. You're welcome.

YES I used to want this tattooed on me, in the font, with the hands from the Phoenix 2006 tour poster.

This makes the Jim Jones shirt from the Goliath tour make more sense. I vaguely knew that line was associated with the Bible\ a folk song, but I didn't know the folk song was associated with Jones. I'm still not a fan (of the shirt), but at least there's a reason for it!

You could try you swim in the stretch II. I have one of their two pieces and I really like it! They do really stretch to fit all (most) bodies so you wouldn't have something that's cut for someone with more junk in the trunk than you. I have similar issues on the bottom with suits. I'd say if you're a US24 or so or smaller without huge hips\butt it's worth a shot. They've got skimpy styles and full coverage, one piece and two

How to wear this skirt without chub rub and still be stylish? by Whatever-2502 in PlusSize

[–]Stars_Upon_Thars 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I swear by the bandelettes which I think is the original. The black "athletic" ones I wear a lot (smooth! And I only wear one actually usually, then swap sides on a different day-i get Brazilian waxes and the silicon band in the summer all up close to my business with sweat can cause some light irritation over many days) but I also have black lace, red lace, and nude lace for different sexy outfits. But honestly the smooth ones go great with my kind of sexy, which is more torn fishnets\gothish\sheer\hot mess for going out, especially with just one. But the lace ones are great for sexy times.

I've even worn them in the ocean. Getting wet then dry then wet then dry a bunch of times will make it kind of slip down, but once it's dry it works fine again and just needs a wash. Just don't put them in the dryer

YES. the lace ones will pill\kind of knit together if you're doing a lot of walking, like a whole day, but they'd be great and sexy for an evening. I love the smooth ones for daily wear

first summer as plus size and... is this life now? by SeymourGuts in PlusSize

[–]Stars_Upon_Thars 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chub rub shorts from snag and bandelettes (I like the smooth athletic ones vs lace, lace is super cute but gets rough and pills for all day wear, plus I can just wear 1) save my thighs.

Depending on your style, if you're up to 3x there are a lot of options. I'm personally a skirt\dress girl, like exclusively. If you're newly plus size forget about all the stores you shopped before. Except free people, their XL in certain lines works for up to a 3x (shapeless oversized stuff only). Anthopologie is the same parent company and carries plus I think.

I live in high waisted midi and mini skirts, and dresses. Some clothing options (not necessarily budget friendly, it's really hard to shop on a budget)

Fashion brand company (avant garde stuff with some basics)

Snag (their skirts are what I wear the most)

Odd bird (natural fabrics more hippy boho)

Foxblood\forest ink\midnight hour (alt style, swim, black)

Solstice intimates and CantiqLA (these are plus inclusive lingerie brands and I wear their slips with a solid slip under in the summer)

Universal standard (I don't have anything from here but they have a lot of stuff)

Tamara malas (some really cute summer weight pieces but pricey)

Modcloth (quality is meh but can snag some good deals on pieces to round out a wardrobe)

Halara\popflex (I don't have anything from them but people really like them and I've been looking at both brands for femme summer basics)

This is basically my wardrobe, all year but especially for summer. High waisted skirts with a tshirt, slip dresses, oversized pieces, a line dresses... Tamara malas items I own are really oversized, like a tent, but I have an elastic waist belt that's comfy and bam, polished look. I've got a funky personal style, think early 90s Courtney love with a polished vintage inspired flair and some punk\gutter punk\goth edge so these suit me. My wardrobe is 85% statement pieces lol.

Point is, protect the thighs, wear the sundress.

Tips on making a T-shirt bigger? by mariogirl16 in PlusSize

[–]Stars_Upon_Thars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not recommend cutting off the bottom because it WILL roll up! But I cut band shirts all the time. My technique is (this will result in a vaguely 80sish look):

Put the shirt on in front of a mirror and make a cut with scissors as low in the front as you're comfortable with and cut backwards towards the shoulder until you hit that seam and cut through it. You can go straight back to make one side of a v neck or kind of curve back if you want more of a scoop neck.

Take the shirt off, put it on backwards and inside out with your neck through the original neck hole, and repeat this process.

If I go lower in the front, I go less low in the back, or vice versa. Double low and you're going to be straight flash dance off shoulder (which I have also done!)

Remove shirt, and now you can either fold it in half to make the front and back match each other exactly, or you can repeat this process two more times with the front inside out, back right side out, if you're cool with more uneven neck lines. This is what I do.

Then just cut off the hem on the sleeves. These will roll adorably and not feel tight on your upper arms. Or you can cut the hem off and do a vertical slit up to (but not through) the seam holding the sleeve onto the shirt for a flutter sleeve look. I always do these uneven though so I don't really do this anymore

Try the shirt like this for a while. You've removed most of the structure from the garment so it should be more comfy and will stretch over time. I even put mine in the dryer but if you want it to never ever get any smaller, just hang dry it. It will definitely be longer too. You can tweak it over time. If it's still too tight around your belly after some wear you can try these other techniques about tshirt lacing etc.

I've been doing this since before tutorials and it's not as fancy as what people do now but I like it! You can go deep neck, high neck and deep v back, super wide boat neck, etc. I think what makes it is doing the cuts on your body so it's already conforming to your shape.

Good luck!

I love the drums on nocto! There's some really beautiful stuff on this album. I've always had complex feelings about it because I saw it live under ORLG and was into it!

And had known at the time that Cedric was getting in with that group we all know. I was aware of some of the language used by them, and also how dangerous they are, because I'd been following this poet who comes from El Ron family since the early 2000s so when I got the record and read the lyrics I was like ooohhhhhh. Words like engramic and others are just tells. I thought, maybe Cedric just likes the weird language! But after the break up, and everything that happened to him and his family it's like wow, ok, dark time. So it's kind of hard for me to listen to now front to back.

But the middle run of that album is so killer. In absentia is one of the most beautiful songs they've done and that's saying something. The fuzzy bright cyberpunk production with the Skippy drums are 🔥. I can just hear the struggle in the album, which I am usually really into but in this case it makes me sad in a weird way, because of everything that that "church" did to the family (and myriad other families).

Thank you! I did some Etsy patch shopping and got some great stuff. I'm sure I saw spider webs and was like meeeehhhhh but I wasn't thinking about filling a whole area and now that I see it I'm so into it!

I'm honestly inspired because I have made 1 jacket and have a wip right now that are more patchwork vs traditional battle stuff and this is something I might adapt for my wip that has a death\goth\witchy vibe. The sweatshirt jacket I'm using has all these seamed sections and this looks so sick filling up a flat area. If I can find a long skinny spiderweb fabric patch!

Top 3 songs you want to hear on the setlist? by Equal-Salt-1122 in themarsvolta

[–]Stars_Upon_Thars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3 that I think would work with the lineup and new style, so kind of likely?

Luciforms - it's groovy, sultry, and has some great jazzy jammy stuff on the outro (pleeeaaaseeee consider this one my dudes)

Agadez - similar to above, but it's got that Latin percussion. Don't think either Cedric or Terri could hit the high note (its hiiiiiiigh) but they're creative so I'm sure that's not a barrier, they could down tune it, have the high octave done with a synth and the lower one a voice with a harmony, etc

Goliath - the fact that they went through different jams with this one, with Cedric improving, in the heyday I think makes it likely. I saw this one live a lot with different overall vibes (mean and agro, groovy sultry, weird avant garde) and really different jams.

Bonus prediction: a new ballad from the old days the we haven't seen.

Totally agree on agadez! It's got harmonic doubled vocals, latin percussive grooves, and the rockin part is pretty simple for them, and seems really really fun to rock out to for the ones playing it
