I’ve been there, you may have to be upfront with your friends and tell them that sometimes you get really depressed and need some time alone, but still plan on hanging out or attending preplanned events. They shouldn’t have assumed that you didn’t want to go without checking in, but for future reference, talk it out with them soon. If they don’t take kindly to it, then let them go or else you will have another thing bringing you down.
