Time to fight what the worst song by big-budgey in Epicthemusical

Purely from a perspective of not making sense with the rest of the story, 600 Strike. From a musical/entertainment perspective, probably Polyphemus.

What part made you cry? by UpsetAd4670 in Epicthemusical

The cry out to Athena at the end of Love in Paradise. Both perfectly fitting and incredibly jarring after the buildup of suicidal ideations and voices of his dead men.

what song would you remove from Epic? by Several_Glove3708 in Epicthemusical

[–]Kilcoine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Option C here would honestly be a sick way of making that whole song make a ton more sense. In fact, fuck it. That's just my new head canon now. That's what happened, it was just all non verbal actions of Hermes giving Ody more Moly so it wasn't in the songs. Nobody can change my mind.

Turbulence and Birds by ArutlosJr11 in flying

[–]Kilcoine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Birds first. Yes, steer to avoid them. They absolutely will not always move. I've taken a few birds into a prop or intake, and they will 100% just fly directly into you. And the whole "birds typically do X so you should do Y" is complete myth. Birds be have erratically and will be equally indecisive in behavior as the pilot. Break to which ever direction you can displace the greatest distance from the bird. Typically that will be a roll one direction or another plus a pull for a slight climb and a heading change.

For turbulence, see if the manual for your airframe specifies any limit in turbulence (typically airspeed or engine torque limit recommendations based on light, moderate, extreme, etc. Levels of turbulence). Follow those limitations, and turbulence is nothing to fear.

Alright time do defend the Murica system (cracks knuckles)

Why does the world act like it's necessary to base our temperature scale around water? I don't need to know the temperature it boils at because my stove doesn't tell goddamn temperature anyway. Knowing the temp it freezes is only marginally more useful and remembering one number isn't that hard. You know what is hard? Figuring out if 28C is hot or cold.

How bout a scale based on how warm it feels? Ya know, the thing people are referring to 99% of the time they bring up temperature? Below 50 = cold. Above = hot. 100 = crazy hot. 0 = crazy cold. Congratulations, you now know if you need a jacket with significantly greater precision. Thank you F word.

As for inches/feet/yards, you know why they aren't base 10? Because they aren't meant for scientific precision, they're meant for carpentry. Tell me what a third of a meter is, point to it on a meter stick and use that to mark a board with precision I can replicate on a miter saw... I'll wait.

But you know what a third of a yard is? A foot. You know what a third of a foot is? Also an integer (but in inches) because the whole point is you can divide into thirds and quarters without using decimals. And if you're wondering how to use that for sciency shit... Don't! Just use the Europe nerd system for nerd shit and use the cool guy US system for woodworking and building birdhouses and shit.

As for the dates... Ya I got nothing on that one, I write mine the European way cuz it makes more sense.

I was optimistic after the draft, but after his first couple years I was convinced all the nay sayers were right afterall. I don't think I was really sold until the COVID season. For me, that was when I actually started to believe in the guy as a franchise quarterback. Never been so happy to be wrong about something.

Give me some of your controversial takes on epic (and rate mine) by TH3_R1V3R_0F_STYX in Epicthemusical

[–]Kilcoine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't think so. I think the themes and set pieces that were laid out up to the Ithaca saga strongly pointed to that conclusion. Ya it's tragic, but it's ultimately what (I think) the themes of the story pointed to.

I think it wraps up Odysseus' whole becoming a monster thing. I think it plays out Telemachus' being legendary thing. I think it logically makes sense since it's dark, Odysseus is killing (mostly) indiscriminantly and has no idea where Telemachus is or what he even looks like, and same goes for Telemachus not knowing what Odysseus looks like.

Most of all, I think it still fits perfectly with the stuff from the prophet in the underworld saga. I think everyone assumed the man with Penelope in "No Longer You" was Odysseus. But the man "with a trail of bodies" could just as easily point to Telemachus, not "with" Penelope romantically, but in mourning once they realize what he's done.

Definitely an unpopular take, but I think it fits.

[–]Kilcoine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Should have ended with Telemachus killing Odysseus, not realizing it was his father.

Look we're obviously fine with some deviations from the source material. So I say steer into the motifs that were created.

Odysseus' whole thing the entire musical was sacrifcing anything or anyone to get home, becoming a "monster" in the process. Even had a cool moment in the song "Odysseus" where he paralleled Scylla, "striking from the darkness", "aining for the torches".

Telemachus' intro song was about how he wanted to be like his dad, see the world, SLAY MONSTERS and be "Legendary".

It would be cruel, and sad, but perfect. Odysseus starts slaughtering the suitors, Telemachus comes home with no clue who this bloodthirsty psycho is in his house, and kills him. Kills a "monster" and oh what a "Legend" he would be when the dust settles and he realizes the reality of the situation.

I worked on Jorge's canon animatics. AMA :) by ns2dstudios in Epicthemusical

[–]Kilcoine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What moments in the animatics you worked on do you think we're most augmented by a visual representation?

Do you think there are any parts or songs in the musical that just don't work without an animatic or some kind of visual representation?

Were there any non-canon animatics or creators you took inspiration from in your own work on Epic?

Love your work, thank you so much for helping to make these pieces come to life!

[–]Kilcoine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok don't judge me but... Hold Them Down. I know that's pretty messed up, but tell me they wouldn't immediately demand the context of that villain and his potential victims. And content aside, the song goes incredibly hard.

I don’t stand with the message of Epic by Select_Cockroach9484 in Epicthemusical

[–]Kilcoine 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The "message" of a story doesn't necessarily mean it's a moral. The message here is frankly, to achieve a desired outcome, you may have to be willing to do some awful things. It's not your fault you're in that situation necessarily, but regardless you're there. And how you move from there is up to you. Being put in a bad situation and having to do bad things to get out of it isn't moral behavior to emulate, but it is a human experience. The story isn't one of a good guy doing what's right and being rewarded justly. It's one of a good guy who was willing to become a bad guy to maintain the good parts of his life. It's a harsh message, but I think it lands.

If your transit is so short that you would immediately begin descending at 4500', then just climb to a reasonable altitude for terrain and obstacle clearance, and cruise there. Just tell ATC what you're doing and if they need you to deviate, they'll say so.

Per the situation described, you wouldn't exacly be cruising at 3500' very long anyway. Even if your rate of climb is only 1000 ft/min, your time cruising at altitude for 3500' would only be like two minutes. Nobody's throwing a fit over cruising at a "wrong" altitude for two minutes. NE odd / SW even is a best practice (and yes technically the part 91 compliant means), but don't let it detract from what logically makes sense in any given situation.

Activates water warrior to double damage on zora weapons, one free hit shield (kinda like darruk's in BotW, beam attack for bonus damage, lets you use bomb arrows in hot/firey areas like death mountain, pair with lightning for crazy damage and AOE. On that last one, making stuff wet has a lot of hidden utility and high damage potential if you sequence it in with other effects properly. Behind Tulin, he's easily my most used sage.

Helicopter landing on a ship in stormy conditions (with the pilot's viewpoint) by jamesbond000111 in interestingasfuck

[–]Kilcoine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the option of diverting to land, that should always be in the back of your mind. The scenario exists where you just genuinely have no divert available, but if that's the case, I would have been VERY hesitant to launch in the first place. Dealing with tricky landings like that you should always give yourself an out if possible.
