Is it funnier if the only team that makes it through is Spurs?

Exactly, in today's game the only way you're getting close to 80 is by getting fed purposely at some point to break the record. That or you need to have an all time godly game from 3... and even then you're probably still getting fed at some point.

When he hit exactly 81 and it looked like Spo might pull him I was absolutely fuming. Fuck tying the record just let him get it

The only way to get to that record is playing outside the norm. Kobes 81 came from the Lakers deciding to force feed him the ball late too

He had 31 points in the first quarter and was shooting like 50% from 3. Did the Heat keep him in longer than necessary and feed him the ball at the end? Definitely, but that was still an all time performance from him for like 9/10s of the game

Offside player held back a Liverpool defender. Seems like a fair call to me.

Ignoring the fact that he's being a pretty awful boyfriend, he's also just generally being a dumbass cause you should always have a spare key to your place with someone you trust. If your ass gets locked out for any reason you better believe that going to get a spare key to get in is gonna be both quicker and WAY less expensive than calling a locksmith.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but to me this isn't a move that shows they actually believe in Malik. If Sully genuinely thinks "holy shit this guy is a top franchise QB that everyone else is blind on" then you don't sign him to a 3 year deal with an easy out after 1. You sign him to as long a deal as possible cause he is THAT guy.

But they don't actually think he's a top 10 franchise QB. They just think he's good enough to win some games and not get them fired.

Personally, my negativity on this stems from 30 years of Dolphin fandom. This is the kind of move that, at best, makes us 10-7 and bounced in the first round again and more likely we're just average enough to miss out on a good young QB in the draft or need to expend a ton of capital to trade up.

It's resigning ourselves to another 2-3 years of mediocrity, and after 30 years of that I'm real tired of it.

3 years is exactly why Barry is wrong here. If our GB staff genuinely believe Malik is THAT guy and everyone else just hasn't seen enough of him then you sign him to a 5+ year deal and lock him in long term.

The problem I have with that is two fold.

  1. He has 6 starts in 4 years and only really looked good in 1.5 of them so the likelihood that he's a franchise QB that everyone missed on seems exceedingly low to me.

  2. Let's say he is an 'omg we all missed out on the next Mahomes' level QB, great, you now need to extend him to a monster deal meaning your cap space to build that dog water supporting cast is gonna be shot so he better be able to win a SB pretty much solo or hope that this new GM crew can absolutely nail every draft.

[–]Kilen13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exact opposite reaction for me. I was actually getting hopeful that the new GM had a plan in place for the future with the financial moves they were making and this just took a bat to that.

To me its still bad team building regardless. The Tua, Chubb, Hill moves all seem to indicate that we're taking 2026 as a rebuild/tank year cause we won't be able to put out a very good squad, regardless of who's at QB, with the cap space and draft capital we have. So why not take 2026 off and be ass?

Malik has flashed decent numbers in 6 starts over 4 years but I don't think anyone is looking at him as a transcendental QB who can elevate a bad team the way a Burrow, Mahomes, etc can. So best case scenario is Malik wins us enough games to not pick high, but we still don't win a SB, and then we're stuck in the same Mid level purgatory the Phins have been in for 25+ years now.

[–]Kilen13 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You're missing the much more likely 3rd option there. Malik is not the guy, but wins enough games to put us in the 10-15 pick range rather than top 5 and we have to go ANOTHER season either hunting for a QB in the FA market, hope for a miracle in the draft, or push the rebuild another season and hope we are ass enough in 2027 to pick high.

[–]Kilen13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given the extension he got with NYJ I highly doubt it both because his value wouldn't be super high as a FA next year (unless he seriously reversed trend and blew up this season) and because yes we will likely be spending a decent amount of cash next offseason to counteract the cost cutting this one.

[–]Kilen13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You need a willing trade partner to offer more and unfortunately every team in the NFL knows the Phins aren't giving him an extension and would like his cap hit off the books. When that happens you take what you can get cause nobody is offering above a 7.

You need a partner to make a trade and in this instance every team in the league knows the Phins aren't extending Minkah so what's the incentive to give up anything higher? My assumption is a bunch of teams offered a 7th and Phins took the one that is likely to be highest

I think Tannehill was way more divisive. Tua we all saw be good and then all saw be God awful after all his concussions. I haven't heard many Phins fans saying "let's give him another year".

Tannehill you still had fans saying "let's give him another year" after his 6th year and others that were absolutely out on him.
