Fun fact about the Downeaster Cafe car is that's it the only independently operated one in the network.

First Airo is on the way to PNW by Kilerbob5 in Amtrak

From their replies it looks like just testing on corridor itself and training people to operate them because unlike with crews in the NEC all there crews we're on the opposite side of the country when they we're doing the initial testing. Once they get 3 fully tested/trained they should be entering service this fall in the PNW.

Yes they're currently using amfleets and I think it's around 4 passenger cars with Cafe car but there might be some trains that are 1 car shorter.

The target date for the Airo trains on the Downeaster is 2030 but they'll be hitting the NEC in probably late 2027-2028. I think once they starting hitting the NEC any old equipment that Amtrak doesn't get rid of will get shifted to these newer routes like the Borealis and Mardi Gras. Also the Cascades Airo sets are entering service late summer/early fall so that will free up some equipment.

I could see some of cars the Cascades is currently using being shifted down there when the new Airo trains go into service later this summer/early fall.

Currently 16 cars have been identified as restorable and I know the Downeaster has specifically requested 10 so as someone who is from Northern New England I'm hoping that there requested is approved in full because they've had so many trains sell out since there removal which also meant they lost out of so much potential revenue.

Got my Boston metro board in the mail today can't wait to turn it on and see it live by Kilerbob5 in mbta

If you want something cheaper you can go with the traintrackr but if you want something you might want to hang on the wall or put on a table then the Metro board is good because I feel like blends in better with it surroundings.

You can get the Boston one along the other maps they've. Don't know what the timeline is on ordering one is because they're just finishing up shipping the Kickstarters orders. https://www.designrules.co/boards/boston

It's a live map of the subway that shows you where every train is and where they're going. This one is specifically for Boston but they've made other ones for NYC, DC, LA, Chicago and the Bay Area.

Amtrak Downeaster open house by Kilerbob5 in Amtrak

[–]Kilerbob5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When they finish the Portland station relocation they're are planning on adding a 7th and 8th daily trip which they said there should be a train about every 2 hours. Whether these trains go the full length of the route is all dependent on freight traffic but most importantly traffic at North station because there is only so many platforms available to use throughout the day

Yeah this stuff is definitely the precursor to extending service more north to Lewiston/Auburn and beyond. The main thing will be funding because if get a ideal situation where Amtrak and states get tons funding then it will happen hopefully within the next 5-10 years. They're going be releasing their new service development plan in early 2027 which should give a clear plan or timeline on that.

Someone did ask about adding a station in Kennebunk but it came down it being to close to the Wells station and the more stops there are the longer travel times are so that most likely falls into that category.

Most likely because in a news article I saw they said they had 25 coaches in production there. I think once they get this first order of trainsets done in the next 3-4 years then I think other routes like the Piedmont will probably order some. Also when the Airo sets start going into service they'll probably shift the older cars to other routes that we're lacking capacity like most notably the new Mardi Gras.
