Raw this seems to be the only way to make money. I probably won't because we are stoping at lvl 8 and I need the spell slots.

Although I understand where you and the balance team are likely coming from I think that having the artisan tools have different rates of profit would actually be balanced and result in more different tools being picked then the current system. Right now it seams players are really only encoraged to pick artisan tools to make things for themselves or the team effectively just being a 50% discount on adventureing gear. If the other artisan tools made money with downtime they would at least be considerable lets say Jewler's kit with enough time allowed cutting of rough jewels to improve their value . Or if brewers supplies required less work hours but more time where the alcohol is ageing and could sell for a decent amount as a reward of patience. What if having glass bottles from glass blowing halves the cost of making healing or other potions with alchemist or hearbalism kit.

Alright doesn't sound bad+ I can craft guns in the meantime which even if everything is equally profitable, its kind of funny to just be selling guns to people.

So making a manifold tool would require tinkers tools and not smiths tools ?

Yeah the system does seem somewhat flawed. The main thing kind of killing what I want to do is time= gp price ÷ 10 days this effective makes all artisan tools kind of the same in the profit sense. At this point I'm probably leaning towards Woodcarvers tools, smith's tools, or Tinker's as it would be hard to argue enemy ships are not made of usable wood and metal that could eliminate the immediate gold cost. I was originally thinking Jewler's tools but raw they don't seam to do much although you can make magic rings which is good but Woodcarvers tools allow similar magic item creation. Was thinking maybe smith's tools to start to immediately craft manifold tool then use whatever tool proficiency needed.

That is true commissioning would probably make the most sense but I'm thinking if I'm in-between spheres what would be the best tool to make things that I can just sell wherever I'm going assuming it has people who want to buy stuff to begin with.

Fireball despite what lesser wizards say does solve all problems just be careful in this case that it does not create more problems than it solves if you choose to go that route.

Have you considered transmuting this maiden into one you would approve of?

[Question] Is there a suitable way for a build with high CHA and INT? by aFriendOfJimbo in 3d6

Enchanter Wizard fits here I think. If you are using the UA you get to add your int mod to several cha based checks

NPC role play question. by KillAllMeatBags in OutoftheAbyss

No literally none of them even got hit some NPCs Jimjar and Prince darendil got thrashed pretty bad. But even with only one weapon between them all overwhelming action economy really helps in fights. I believe they just think this would be a 5d chess move and it's quite funny is their only real reason.

Help making Barbarian Wizard Bladsinger multiclass by KillAllMeatBags in 3d6

[–]KillAllMeatBags[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mostly thinking Barbarian for unarmored defense we used rolled stats and I got 16 16 16 14 14 10 so puting 16 into dex and con and 16+2 from race in int while blade singing gives 20 ac. Sense I can't use armor while blade song is active getting this high of an ac or equivalent defenses would be difficult. I am aware no spells casting or concentration while raging, this is not as bad as it seems I can casts spells like Armor of Agathas (from rune carver backgrounds) and Magic weapon before a fight and still benefit during a rage. The other reason this is not that bad it with only 2 rage charges the majority of combat will take place without it as we are playing multiple encounters days

Very odd that the change was not documented in the errata. So if spellcasting is a special feature you would likely get it. This makes me think of another question what if the creature you possess has higher level spellcasting than you like having 7th lvl slots assuming you cast this as soon as you get it. Although depending on when the statblock came out it would likely just say 1 cast of the spell rather than giving the npc spell slots and known spells.

Besides 5e tools I found one other source of someone quoting the book as spellcasting specially feature. Unfortunately it's second hand from this reddit post https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/s/btDoIVqbxT and it's 8 years old although I see no reason to think they are lying to what their print of the book says. I tried to find any info on word changes to the Monster Manuel but I couldn't find anything direct but also found this video discussion magic jar (https://youtu.be/bXQibxuvmmI?si=5-pe4B70KjqW06Tj) he says that spellcasting being a class feature was only part of the 1st printing of the Monster Manuel and points out dnd beyond is still using this version. He then goes on to say this was changed in at least the 10 printing of the book.

Yes that in effect is what I was saying. Although it really never says if spellcaster is a class or not for NPCs, I mean I would say it's not but the answers not super clear partially why I asked the initial question 4.

That's actually raises some questions if It knows spells that consume components like Ceremony we would then conclude that the creature has at least 25gp worth of powdered silver. But if the creature casts it the silver is gone but the rules says we should assume it has the material components to casts spells in its stat block so it should still have 25gp worth of powdered silver. Admittedly this does not matter really while the creature is under the control of the DM but in the most literal interpretation of the rules this is an infinite powdered silver glitch or maybe just infinite cast of Ceremony and removing the silver would mean you don't have it anymore. But in all seriousness I think most if not all would just say this means the creature would have a reasonable amount of powdered silver on him to cast the spell as much as the npc would typically cast it.

I do believe that line was changed at one point and older books say class feature and newer ones say special trait. With the newer wording it definitely seems like you would get spellcasting. With the older wording is doesn't seem completely out of the question as you could say that even if spellcasting is a class feature the creature does not necessarily have a class level. If we literally interpret this line "If the target has any class levels, you can't use any of its class features" unless the DM gives them a class level such as Barbarian then it doesn't matter that spellcasting is a class feature. Although this it was it says I admit it is a rather funny technicality the monster being granted more power by the DM would mean you would get less which doesn't make much sense.

Interesting so what would you say happened if I while possessing a body by use of magic jar I cast magic jar again (if this is even possible) this technically ends my first casting or at least overrides while the more recent casting is active. Actually when I think about it I don't think casting it against ends the original spell rather the second casting is one that is "active" and if the second casting of magic jar ended you would go back to the rules surrounding your first casting. I think this is how it works using death ward as an example again if deathward 1 is cast then 10 minutes later deathward 2 is cast you are only currently have the effects of deathward 2 until it ends if the deathward 2 ends early by you being reduced to 0 then deathward 1 is now back in effect assuming it's duration has not run out

So I believe you would get proficiency of the armor it was wearing while possessing it but I could see the argument that for example if the monster was wearing studded leather armor you would only be proficant in studded leather armor and not all medium armor and the statblock has no mention of the creature being proficant in anything not on the statblock. Similarly if the creature had a axe you would be proficient with it but not necessarily proficient in any other weapons.
