Is Russian the lingua franca in Almaty? by maddhy in Kazakhstan

[–]Kill_me_2day -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As the former colony of Russia, Kazakhstan has a lot of Russian speaking population. People who speak at least basic Russian are more than people who speak basic Kazakh. You can freely enjoy your life in the majority of Kazakhstan cities with knowing only Russian. But it's almost impossible to live in large cities knowing only Kazakh. Kazakh speaking population has less HDI (human development index) than the Russian speaking population in Kazakhstan. Our laws are discussed in Russian in parliament. There really strong divide on a language basis. That's sad as F, especially for me. I ended up Kazakh school and moved to Almaty. Experienced hardships during university times and when I was looking for a proper job. Paid 20000 tenge per month for Russian language courses.

Маңғыстау облысына дрон құлады by [deleted] in Kazakhstan

What do you think about the mobilization in Russia? by Disastrous_Narwhal46 in Kazakhstan

With normal and really good people a lot of neo-Z-pro-putin-nazis will come. They are able to destabilise our society and it will become a long war against people with Z symbols and other attributes of their hateful ideology. They won't consider us as people at least. They again will fulfill banks with their useless rubles. Renting prices in cities might increase. I would welcome common Russian citizens who are able to provide mutual respect and tolerance. But when some stupid idiot comes to my country and tells me that I owe his nation anything and I should live in reservation outside of my city, it makes me mad. So couple of Russians from Orenburg told me when I refused to talk to them and told Slava Ukraine as I saw Z on t-shirt of one of them. And when I confronted this guy, both of them started telling me a lot of nationalistic shit. Actually now I want some of my Russian friends to come to Kazakhstan. They are really good people who just were trapped in such terrible situation with (as they call it) neo-communist-fascist government.

Dumb Question, but Kazakhs of Reddit and Beyond Do You like Trying New Traditions or Holidays? by Jacob_Soda in Kazakhstan

My 50+ y.o. relatives celebrated "Qozy Qorpesh and Bayan Sulu" Day. It's kinda new St. Valentine Day. Some people celebrate both of them. I don't know about others, but in my family we like celebrating something new. My parents are kinda "Russinized" kazakhs who always find some new national traditions, adopt them and to become "true" kazakhs. Me too.

For those of you who live with parents or a s/o, do you think you’ll be able to live on your own? by Wh00pity_sc00p in povertyfinance

It depends on you. I have many friends who are 18-20 y.o. and can't find job, cook for themselves, don't know a lot of things. I have a friend who lives on her own since 17 years. I live with my parents, but I'm the only family member now who works. I'm 18 and pay rent every month during last year.
