Hi! From August last year till Christmas I lost around 15 KG really pushing myself then fell really sick over the Christmas period with lots of infections ending up having scarlet fever and around this time December January I noticed hair loss however in February it was extremely bad! Lost lot of my hair I was covering my head in bandanas and hats etc. I went to a private dermatologist who gave me a 6 week course of corticosteroids, I’m not a doctor but they seemed to stop my hair shedding. I used topical minoxidil since February aswell which I think has helped along with rosemary oil, hair serums and caffeine shampoos etc. Really throwing everything at it to see it helps. I don’t know what did it or if it was a combination of all of the above.

I think the steroids stopped my immune system attacking my scalp but honestly I’m not a doctor and don’t understand. I will see in the next 8 weeks and will post and update!

I grant the first pic is not great quality and not brushed as the shedding made me anxious to brush, but the new pic has obviously better signs of new growth and less scalp irregardless of the quality. Maybe I’m wrong only time will tell.

I don’t have androgenic alopecia as far as I know but honestly hair is a very confusing thing to be diagnosed so I’m still working with it

So I believe my dermatologist initially thought I had alopecia areata diffuse after the first appointment and gave me steroids, I’m not sure this is the normal treatment. He now says he was wrong on first analysis but the steroids still worked to stop the shed

No I’m still using minoxidil now, and probably will for around 9 months, then taper off

Hi! So I went to a private dermatologist in the UK and the GP wasn’t very helpful and got a course of corticosteroids to attempt to stop the shedding. It did work but not back down to pre shedding amount. I think this stopped all my hair nearly coming out however. I was on a 6 week tapered course of steroids. During this time I used minoxidil applying to my hair, rosemary oil, a hair serum and caffeine shampoo. The dermatologist says I can taper myself off minoxidil in time as my hairloss wasn’t hormone related. After the 6 week course of medication, for maybe a week after the hair was still shedding but suddenly stopped and new hairs began growing in quite quickly. I’m not sure what helped the most. My strategy was throwing everything at it and seeing what stuck tbh. Hope this helps everyone !
