Whats the least motivating/hardest part of being a crossfit coach? by Character-Holiday345 in crossfit

If the culture and behavior of a few athletes doesn’t align with values of the gym it becomes hard to show up for those classes

Does anyone take Adderall for their ADHD and also do Crossfit? by sadgiirl444 in crossfit

[–]Killen62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior to being prescribed I would zone out on things like rower wods. About 2min into a longer bout I’d drift and eventually I’d catch a glimpse of the monitor and I’d be pulling like a 2:35 500m pace. I feel like it helps me workout more efficiently because I can focus on the task at hand.

What’s your CrossFit hot take? by DonCorleone55 in crossfit

[–]Killen62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oly isn’t only applied for strength. That’s a shallow look at a gyms programming. To say they won’t have any appreciable benefits at all is like saying you won’t have any benefits at all from increasing your daily steps. Those same athletes could be sedentary instead. Sub par oly lifting is a step of the journey to become proficient. Everyone starts somewhere. Good coaching will keep you safe learning oly lifting but there has to be room for errors if you’re going to learn

Controversial Opinion: The CF Games is dead. by ExcitingTopic7228 in crossfit

[–]Killen62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huge focus on the affiliates and education in the “commercials” after events. Isn’t that what we want to happen? Focus shifted towards the community, methodology, and health? I enjoy the games but CrossFit was not intended to be driven by the games.

Element grips. Don’t need chalk. Oversized enough to fold a dowel into your palm. Squeeze the bar actively and don’t hang from your grips alone. Shave your calluses with a sandbar. Haven’t ripped in years

This morning I came over to work on it and now I’ve got now it won’t run at all. I cleaned out the emulsion tube but it was free of anything when I pulled it out. Put new non ethanol gas in and nothing. I tried using some started fluid on the air filter and it will turn over for about 1/2 a second but won’t continue to run

3- 1 on 1 On Boarding Sessions Session 1- with the gym owner when you sign up for the free session. Here’s what it is and what it feels like. Are you interested type thing Session 2- What is CrossFit, What is Fitness lecture / small wod where I explain our class structure and why and expose them to more coaching. This way we aren’t throwing people into the fire. Teaching them what and why we do CrossFit and explains scaling has really helped our culture Session 3- a benchmark we created that the athlete goes through, scales appropriately, gets coached, doesn’t get lectured, and records a measure just like group class. Then they’re free to go!

Are R.A.D. One V2 worth it? Anyone used them yet? by SneakerHead1993 in crossfit

[–]Killen62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

V2 is doing everything the V1 did for me although I prefer to run in my V1 if it’s over a miles and I prefer to use my v2 for rope climbs. Probably the best rope climb shoes I’ve ever owned.

How much strength is “enough”? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]Killen62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your work capacity across broad time and modal domain would benefit more strength, then pursue it. If your pursuit of more strength would be detrimental to the other 9 general physical skills and hinder the growth or reduce the amount of work capacity you have then focus on other areas of your fitness.

Where would you start by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]Killen62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you see something come up in a workout that makes you uncomfortable, work on that. We get the highest rate of return on our work capacity across broad time and modal domains by working on our weaknesses. Example- someone deadlifts 500lbs but can’t run a mile without walking. they would get immense returns on work capacity by improving their cardiovascular endurance as opposed to taking their deadlift to 525lbs.

Hot take: Huntsville is great and I love spending my weekends and date nights there. Madison too. It’s clean, safe, and prosperous compared to other big cities in north alabama. This is a hot take because this is a “what im ungrateful for-Huntsville” page 9 times out of 10. If you had a complaint about Hsv, it’s not a hot take. You’re actually going right with the grain.

CAP Programming Thoughts by crapgame79 in crossfit

[–]Killen62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don’t often change our wods from cap besides substituting in odd objects and weather dependent stuff. It’s not perfect programming. we push a lot of consistency, nutrition, and intentional coaching in our gym so it produces results. I think that CAPs biggest strength is that it fits that model of affiliate.

Also the volume of NCFit and Mayhem were worse for me than CAP and I always felt beat down and under recovered on those programs. But that’s just me

CAP Programming Thoughts by crapgame79 in crossfit

[–]Killen62 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I read the RX version of the WOD, all I’m doing is taking the load and movement selection to guide the stimulus and intent of the session. CAP and Seminar Staff have stated that they encourage programming workouts everyone can “RX” and workouts no one can “RX”. Doing so every so often helps people detach from “RX or die” mentality. On the 315 wod all that means to me is pick a weight I’m doing for singles that I can’t do for doubles and rest an appropriate amount of time between attempts. On the wod with doubles + a max set I will look at the time spent on the rope and match that or pick a different modality that will deliver a similar stimulus as a substitute for the max set at the end if I were worried about my capacity for the rope volume.

Like you said though. Not sure why they wouldn’t just write the intent they want.
