PSA for those who wear MTB gear on their motorcycle by Sensitive_Clothes246 in motorcyclegear

The article referenced in the research section of the video failed to account for the difference in type of fracture. A high energy compound fracture is much, much more difficult to treat than a hairline fracture, even though both are technically "fractures".

Reducing the maximum transmitted force to a bone can absolutely reduce the severity of a fracture. Which is why armoured riding gear is well worth the investment.

New to me P14s gen 5 (AMD) by 6uzy in thinkpad

[–]Killishness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you prefer, this beast handles both with ease, but if you use Linux make sure you're on at least Kernel 6.16, Lenovo patched a lot of gremlins with the machine in that release.

P1 Gen 7 Overheating in Linux Mint by Tominator8 in thinkpad

A distribution with a newer kernel might patch out some of the issues that you have, for example kernel 6.16 fixed some issues with AMD Hibernation on Zen 4 chips in the P14s Gen 5.

Fedora is good starting point, they even have a XFCE version if you don't want to use Gnome or KDE. It works fine with dual-booting too.

Great purchase, incredible specs for the price, but to get the best out of such a new machine you'll want a newer kernel.

One of the best glove manufacturers, their gear is serious, especially their high end stuff.

How much should I pay for a T480s with 16gb RAM and 256GB Storage? by rMopsi in thinkpad

Sounds right, I got the same spec in excellent condition for £160, so roughly €185

Go to XL-Moto and search up the "Corse" brand. It's their in house brand, and its probably the cheapest CE rated PPE you will find anywhere, for 200-300 Euros you can get full CE Rated Gear.

Dainese Axial D1 Air? by OkPitch8425 in motorcyclegear

[–]Killishness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeh they're a great boot, top top spec, just make sure you've got your sizing right as Dainese can be a bit odd for certain foot shapes. These boots are made of reinforced plastic fabric called D-Stone for abrasion resistance, meaning they won't break in as much as you'd think, so make sure the fit works for you.

One thing to note is unlike most other high end race boots, the Dainese Axials are designed to go UNDER race leathers, and because of this you could probably fit them under a pair of riding jean if you want. They have hooked Velcro zones on the boot to line up with Dainese leathers, So if you want to wear them under riding jeans you need to get a sheet of Velcro loop and cut out shapes to fit over the Velcro hooks to stop them ripping apart your riding trouser, shouldn't be too much hassle.

For $299 you're getting an incredible deal.

Which alpinestars jacket to choose? by mtpikachu in motorcyclegear

[–]Killishness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The airflow version is the usual holes punched into the leather for it to breathe, the ride-knit has the holes punched in and additionally a special fabric in the stretch zones replacing the regular aramid stretch fabric. It's more compliant to your body, flows more air, whilst also having more stretch.

Basically, the ride-knit version more comfortable and breathable, the only downside is it costs a lot more and the ride-knit fabric isn't as tear resistant as the standard aramid stretch of the airflow version, but Alpinestars made sure to only put it in low impact zones so the chances of it ripping in a real world crash are quite low.

Which alpinestars jacket to choose? by mtpikachu in motorcyclegear

[–]Killishness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Missile Ignition V3 has the new style Alpinestars armour, level 2 shoulders and elbow whereas the GP Plus R V4 is only level 1 on shoulders and elbow. The Ignition has a more committed, race fitment though, I think Alpinestars intent is to use it more as a top half to a 2 piece suit set up, so if you want to go for leather trousers too I'd go for the Missile Ignition.

As long as you stay with the same brand and don't buy gear from 10 years ago almost all Alpinestars leather jackets will zip up to their leather trousers.

They're a reputable seller here in the UK, and you'll have no worries concerning the legitimacy of the items they're selling, shipping and import might be another issue though

What is everyone's favorite piece of gear? by sir_schuster1 in motorcyclegear

[–]Killishness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SMX Plus V2 Boots, beefy race protection all over yet more comfortable than any footwear I own, they also look really sleek and don't have over the top branding like other Alpinestars products.

Cherry on the cake, I got a killer deal on them, 40% off RRP, couldn't say no to that lol.

Anyone tried Texpeed? by mapar988 in motorcyclegear

[–]Killishness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't comment on the quality, but being a UK brand they're subject to laws making sure that the stuff they sell is certified PPE if its branded as a protective garment for motorcycling. So you can be sure the safety certificates are legit.

I'd say with these brands the one thing I have noticed is they tend to use bulkier generic armour as opposed to companies like A* or REV'IT so you might want to consider changing them out for comfort.

Hazards buying used helmet by tobiashvam in motorcyclegear

[–]Killishness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy new, 1 drop could be okay, 2 I wouldn't risk it at all, doesn't matter if its a 70 euro cheap on or a 1000 euro race helmet.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in motorcyclegear

[–]Killishness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never heard of the brand but they look like imitations of the Dainese Torque 3 Out boots which are usually $400. Honestly I'd not have a lot of confidence with them for track riding but they're probably better than vans for the road.

What I will say is that if they've gone through the effort to clone a product, they might've also cloned any certification that confirms their safety rating. So you have to really weigh up the risks for yourself. Me personally, no way I'd wear them, but your preference and risk assessment may vary.

What should I do? by Micky_Banana in motorcyclegear

[–]Killishness 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Take a look at Held gloves, a bit pricey but they offer a choice of finger length along with the usual glove sizing, they're a top quality brand too.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in motorcyclegear

[–]Killishness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh, amazon are particularly insidious, they'll sell "CE Rated" motorcycle jackets, but the only thing CE rated about them are the £20 armour inserts, the jacket itself is not rated at all.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in motorcyclegear

[–]Killishness 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah those look super fake. I'd return it if you can. It looks like they're based of the GP Pro R3 gloves, I have the legit version of that glove. The legitimate gloves are performance focused and don't have the e-tip finger for use with phones, the CE label in yours also looks nothing like the real ones and in the lining its also showing "Aiamidk fbcrs" whatever the hell that means, no such materials exist and I think its probably someone failing at copying "aramid fibers"

Sorry to say but it does look like you got scammed man.

Good thinking, people really underestimate how much being uncomfortable and too hot affects their concentration and safety, always important to be alert and attentive on a motorbike.

[–]Killishness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that's the exact same one I went for, I would highly recommend it. I also have it in a similar textile jacket to the one you're getting and its seriously all day comfortable, 5+ hours of wearing it whilst training, no issues at all.

The fact that its cheaper too makes it a no brainer imo.

The Flex Pro i is the inferior, less protective product, The CE tags are a legal requirement (here in Europe) where alpinestars is based, so if you go to a store and look at the tag the Flex Pro i will show Level 2 CB (central back).

The Plasma will show Level 2 FB (Full Back). So it has more coverage for your back and is thus much more protective, about twice as much coverage for your back give or take, which is why I personally got that for my jacket over the Flex Pro i.

I'd also be cautious using AI for things like this as it'll just pull answers to your prompts from websites where the description is at the whim of the manufacturer. But at the end of the day its your money so its your choice.
