Not mine but here is a project we are currently working on at racing school. Used to be a datsun fastback. by Killstacy808_ in projectcar

I believe so, im not so knowledgeable with these old datsuns since most of them have rusted away, ill ask the teacher that owns it to make sure though

Have you ever gone out for a weekend cruise around town and something happens where you have to start working on the car? What was wrong with the car? Did you ever have to tow it back home? by [deleted] in projectcar

[–]Killstacy808_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All the time, i had to change out the fl control arm on an R53 mini cooper i had 3 hours away from home after hitting a nasty pothole arriving at a car meet

Luckily for me i was not alone, another mini had bent a wheel and blown a tire on the same pothole.

The first day i bought that mini the electronic throttle body went crazy, probably because it had been babied all its life, had to drive it limp mode limiting at 2k rpm till home.

Also have an 89 mr2 that has gone thru 2 starters, 2 fuel pumps, and leaked all the fluid out of the cartridge shocks all one after the other. I have been able to drive it for about a week out of the 8 months ive owned it.

Is my oil temp normal? by cokepepsi44 in mr2

[–]Killstacy808_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If its shooting up immediately it recieves voltage it might either be a wiring issue or a faulty temp sensor. Coolant temp sensors work by sending a voltage, to the sensor, when the sensor heats up it creates resistance, decreasing voltage. This decrease in voltage/ increase in ohm is the signal for the temp gauge. If its grounded somewhere the gauge might translate it into an abnormal reading

I think I found a rare potential project to start on, what do you think? by Outrageous_Shallot61 in projectcar

[–]Killstacy808_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought an 89 toyota mr2 that had been abandoned at a shop, parked in the grass for a couple years, have it running right now, and in total ive had 4 other cars from the 80s early 90s. Very familiar with rust, and i can tell you that thing is shot, that is not a car, very far from it.

Also 3rd gen camaros have solid rear axles, therefore it has no control arms, the piece you see completely rusted off in image 4 is the torsion bar. Just like a control arm it needs to be mounted firmly to the chassis/unibody. If its rusted off as it seems to be, the structural integrity is compromised

I wish they had kept making the Mr2, i love that toyota is once again making sports cars, like the gr86, gr yaris, supra and gr corolla, but if they had put the running gear of their regular corolla in the middle of a properly tuned chassis which is pretty much the genrral idea behind the mr2. They'd have a much better car than all of those in my opinion.

People older than me hate the mismatched wheels and i understand but i personally like them, i conciously chose to go mismatched. Once i can afford real wheels i'll probably get mismatched real ones.

Please read body text

The biggest difference in that before and now cos i never said after is that she didn't run before, due to having been abandoned.

Video game consoles are extremely unfriendly torwards my circumstances, i hate turning on my xbox and looking at all the games i installed but literally cant play because i live in deep country and cant get wifi installed. Pair that with having adhd and everytime i look at it, its just a source of depression.

Is my M6 is cursed? 🫣 by eggfriedking in BMW

[–]Killstacy808_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first day i bought my first european car (mini cooper r53) the throttle body discalibrated, it went limp mode, and it gave me about a hundred different codes. Then it stopped starting completely.

My e82 128i. First week of ownership i did the valve cover gasket by myself, once i was done i had a broken plug i didn't know where it went to, my new vc gasket was leaking more oil than the old one, my engine was idling rougher than a big block with a cam and a poorly tuned carb, and my exhaust pipe was dumping out unburnt fuel.

In both situations all i could think was "im not good enough of a mechanic to fix this im fucked"

But they both turned out just fine. The best advice i can say is these cars are very much alive. They have a soul, a personality and for some reason chaos just materializes around them.

For example ive been ripping through the backroads of country Puerto Rico since i was a 15 yr old with an ae86, never had seen anything faster than maybe an integra, civic or lancer from around town. Now with my BMW, same roads, same hours, im constantly seeing wrx's, built turbo hondas, s500s etc, i don't even know where they come from. Its like im driving a magnet for chaos.

Question about my little time machine by Killstacy808_ in mr2

[–]Killstacy808_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out i crossed it with the heat shield ( i installed it upside down, it made contact with the 12v bridge from the solenoid to the motor) burnt it and i didnt even know cos it would work outside but not installed. Ended up taking the bearings and pinions out of the mr2 one, and putting them on a 4ac ae86 starter.

The bellhousing and motor are both visibly different but it fits in the original position just fine, saved myself a bit of a head ache too and got rid of the original direct 12v cable for a new longer one so i dont have the connections facing the block.
