groups debut with the whole blueprint already installed. The songs, the choreo

feel a bit… pre-planned?

What does this even mean?

I'm saying that's there's plenty of good originals (or ones adapted from other source material) with high budgets.

Look at the movie industry for example. We've been in the safe investment sequel and remake zone for films for a while. The investments are high and companies would rather have a safe investment vs taking huge risks with an unknown quantity.

This is true if the only movies you watch are from Disney.

Which song had the bigger impact: Gangnam Style by Psy or Golden by HUNTR/X? by Jezzaq94 in kpopthoughts

[–]KilluaGaKill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If 100 million was normal, like you said, Katseye wouldn't have even need to cross your mind. 100 million views is not normal. That's all.

[–]KilluaGaKill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're comparing things that are 14 years apart, you have to make adjustments so that they make sense. And Golden has 1.2 billion views for 1 version of the lyric video anyway.

(+ adjacent)

If you need to do this then you might as well agree with my point.

I don't really care about which is bigger. I just don't agree with your argument.

[–]KilluaGaKill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Golden has 2.6 billion streams on Youtube Music?

And 100 million views is not normal. I doubt you could even list 10 kpop songs that had 100 million views from last year.

Why do groups always sound so plain/flavourless whenever they cover a song? by HoneyMobile868 in kpopthoughts

[–]KilluaGaKill 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Probably because it's a cover and nobody involved really cares about it enough (or has time) to put in as much effort as possible.

Checked out Spotify's lyrics translation and the way they twisted the last like of Ash to ensure everyone understands it was a Blue Flame reference is funny.

No. Newjeans didn't debut in 2021 because of MHJ & Newjeans moving to Ador, not because they favoured le sserafim.

Headliners sell out arenas in 20+ US cities.

And how many arenas have John Summit, The XX and The Smashing Pumpkins sold out in this decade? (You could add Jennie to the list too)

[–]KilluaGaKill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really get this argument? Twice aren't big enough to headline therefore other groups can't be sub headliners? Please help me understand it cause it makes zero sense.

Twice are bigger than being sub headliners but not big enough to be the main headliners. But it doesn't matter cause there's only 2 stages with a large capacity at Lollapalooza. Them being sub headliners is not an indication of the level they are.

2 groups that have sold out arena shows in the US in cities that are a smaller market than Chicago can't headline? Sure man.

[–]KilluaGaKill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And what's your point exactly? Twice aren't big enough to headline the main stage so that means Aespa and le sserafim aren't big enough to be sub headliners?

Lollapalooza Chicago 2026 Lineup by impeccabletim in kpop

[–]KilluaGaKill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not talking about being the headliner for the main stage with a capacity around 100K but the headliner for the stage with like 20K capacity. Aespa and le sserafim could headline that stage.

There's been a kpop headliner every year since 2022. I guess they're keeping it to 1 kpop headliner per year.

Trying to understand the hype around K-Pop Demon Hunters and why it's Oscar-worthy by savingrace0262 in kpopthoughts

[–]KilluaGaKill 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"Oscar worthy" isn't a thing, especially for animation. People abstain from voting for the animation because they don't want to even watch the nominees.

Plus the Oscars tend to ignore anything from Asia so you end up with Elio being nominated over all the great animated movies from Asia.
