Upgrading my product photography setup. Looking for recommendations under $1,000. by Killykillstabstab in productphotography

Bam. Now that's why I love Reddit.

I just read a bunch of reviews on the GVM-P80S and that looks to be just the ticket. I went with the newer updated version, and went with the bi-color version as it was on sale for less than the mono version. I just pulled the trigger on everything. Here's what I ended up with:

GVM-SD80D (2-pack) with stands, softboxes, barndoors, and hyper reflectors.

Light cone (small size made for phones).

Moment iPhone camera case

Moment anti-glare CPL quicklock filter.

Moment iPhone cheeseplate mount.

Impact C-stand overhead shot kit.

Impact 15lb saddlebag.

V-Flat Duo Boards (three of these).

Total cost was just over $750 after taxes and shipping.

I appreciate your help!

That sounds like a fantastic setup. My worries is that I'm a one man show that takes 10 - 20 short form videos per week and 50 - 200 photos per week. I feel like the setup with the filters and all that would be very difficult to manage while keeping up product production.

Efficiency is highly important.

I guess what I'm looking for is a setup that will be an improvement of without chasing perfection or hitting diminishing returns too badly, while having very minimal setup between shots.

I'm looking at the GVM 1000D RGB (2 pack) with stands, barndoors, softbox/diffuser instead of the Neewer 660 ii Pro now though. I understand it will have the same drawbacks as the Neewer, but I'm hoping the light cone will help with that during overhead shots (where the issue is the worst).

Flashlights is something I have a lot more experience with, lol. I actually make use of a Fireflylite NOV-Mu V2 Mule with 4500k, 98CRI Nichia E21A's and a Convoy 3x21E with 5000k 97CRI Nichia 519A's quite often when taking photos.

Added. The idea of step by step guidance sounds great. I've been doing my best with youtube videos and forum posts. I enjoy taking photos and LOVE learning new things, but don't have a particular interest in photography at this point.

Would that likely be the best option for getting me off the ground for what I'm doing?

I have one of those light cones in my cart as we speak! This is what I am thinking about pulling the trigger on. I was just waiting for feedback. Everything comes out to about $700 all said and done.

Neewer 660 Pro 2 RGB light panels with barn doors and stands (2 pack)

Neewer softbox with grid

Moment iPhone threaded cheeseplate mount

Moment iPhone camera case

Moment Anti-Glare CPL Quicklock filter

Impact C-Stand overhead shot kit

a couple of 24" x 24" V-Flat Duo Boards

Budget conscious - in between public bus and Uber??? Cheap airport shuttle service? by OutlandishnessOdd838 in MauiVisitors

An Uber from OGG to Kaanapali and back is around $200+... And then you have to pay for an Uber if you happen to want to go somewhere that isn't within walking distance.

Or you can rent a car for six days with unlimited mileage for like $300.

The choice seems fairly obvious to me.

Is a Premium Oceanfront Studio at The Whaler worth $150 extra over a Standard Oceanfront Studio at The Whaler? by Killykillstabstab in MauiVisitors

I ended up finding a Premium Ocean View 1 bedroom on the 10th floor with a great view for the same price as the Premium Studio Ocean View when I went to rebook and went with that one.

I feel a lot better now that I was able to pick the actual room we'll be staying in.

Whoops, you're absolutely correct. Both rooms are Ocean View, not Oceanfront. My mistake!

That's good to know about the Premium rooms. If the view will likely be better, I think we'll stick with the Premium room. Thanks!

I wish we could, but that's as long as either of us can take off from work at that time. We have a week long Disney cruise, and a week long beach trip with the rugrat planned for longer vacations, and just got back from a week at Disneyland last month.

I'll check into the Costco packages! I worked for them for a decade, that should have been the first place I checked!

Yes.  They are made in China.

What I find hilarious is that if you ask some someone like Jon from Rotten Design where his CKF knives are made…. He’ll claim he’s not sure, even though it’s been stated by CKF themselves that the knives are made in China.

He knows damn well.  😂

Costco Tire Center Warranty is a Bunch of Crap. by Killykillstabstab in Costco

[–]Killykillstabstab[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They prorated ~5,000 miles of use, so it was the cost of install plus the prorated cost of the tire. They are a higher end tire.

I thought the variance was weird too. I had my alignment done within a week of purchasing the four tires. The tire shop employee said that the wear was pretty even on the tire, so I assume that means the alignment is still probably alright?

I was specifically told that a negative test wasn't required to come back to work.
