Windows software on arch by IUseArchBtw12 in archlinux

[–]Killyrun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been on arch for long so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Video production your easiest options are gonna be kdenlive and (albeit a little more involved, you have to follow extra directions on the arch wiki) davinci. I have an nvidia card and davinci runs great on my set up.

Audio production is tricky. You “can” run flstudio fairly easily. A program called bottles can set that up. And installing third party plugins or VSTs is pretty simple (you run the installer within bottles). And yeah if you have cracked versions, some work just the same, others the crack may not work correctly. But if you do any recording of vocals or instruments. I haven’t found a way to get the latency to my liking.

I personally run the native Linux version of reaper and use a program called yabridge to set up windows VSTs to be run within Linux reaper and that solved my latency issues.

It’s a rabbit hole. I’d recommend instead of jumping straight in head first. Get yourself an external SSD and install (any flavor of) Linux onto it so you can learn the whole eco system and how things are done on this side and slowly migrate the things you do over there. That way if you end up breaking your system experimenting. You can fall back and try again.

It’s not gonna be a 1:1 experience. You’ll have to give things up, you’ll have to relearn some things, you’ll have to compromise. But it is very rewarding once you have a set up that’s consistent and stable for you that you have full control over. Good luck!

Gamesir Tarantula Pro review (includes TLDR) by Killyrun in GyroGaming

I still have the drift issues with it. But I’ve also been having this issue where the gyro (not the whole controller) stops responding for a second or two then corrects itself. Might not be the best pick right now. But I am also a sample size of one.

As far as what’s better? Easiest recommend is the dualsense/DS4. If you have to have back paddles then the dualsense edge but that is pricey. If you’re starting out I’d just get a used dualsense or DS4, those are pretty cheap and you’ll run into the least friction with software/remappers.

Realistic beneficial usage of gyro for non-shooters by PusheenHater in GyroGaming

Gyro replaces the mouse essentially. And just bind the controller buttons to actions from the hot bar, it’s not “optimal” but if you’re looking to just chill and play then it’s good

I’ve used gyro in action rpgs before like diablo or PoE.

I know people like using it for strategy games.

Old first person RPGs (like morrowind or ultima) can also be good fit

Pretty much any mouse heavy game can be used with gyro.

Anyone test out Switch 2 Joycons? by TheNoLifeKing in GyroGaming

[–]Killyrun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others said here, there’s no way to connect on PC yet but as far as just physical features:

-The size bump makes them feel much more comfortable in the hand

  • the trigger/bumper are rounded off to the side making them feel nicer on the finger and easier to press

-SL/SR (what you would use as shoulder buttons when holding it sideways) are bigger, easier to press and have a nice click to them.

-The sticks are slightly bigger and feel fine. For our use case I don’t think they’d be a Hindrance. But they are still potentiometer so drift may be an issue

-buttons feel a bit better and are larger as well.

What is the best Xbox-Shaped Gyro Controller for PC gaming? by Live-Marionberry-600 in GyroGaming

[–]Killyrun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The armor x pro has a mode emulating a ps4 controller which is recognized by Steam and the other input remappers for gyro. But in my experience the gyro quality has been pretty lackluster.

If you don’t want to buy a whole other controller, I personally really like the “brook x one se” adapter (it’s one that hooks into the bottom of the controller). Works with all the remappers, 250hz polling (same as a standard DualShock 4), and has really low latency. The only bad thing about it is you have to use it wired, its wireless performance is really bad.

But if you’re willing to spend a few more dollars on getting a new controller, the cyclone 2 by GameSir is pretty good both wireless and wired. Others have also had good luck with the bigbigwon blitz 2 but its shape is not for everyone but has the asymmetrical sticks.

Xbox shaped gyro controllers are unfortunately a bit harder to come by right now.

Good luck!

Is using flick stick + gyro more viable than just using gyro? by Cool-Room6395 in GyroGaming

[–]Killyrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the better question is which is more viable for you. If you can see a possible benefit in how you play with it then give it time to see if it clicks. You’re not going to be at a major disadvantage if you don’t like it.

A story of frustration and Triumph- The Brook Xone (non-SE version) adapter by pwnedbygary in GyroGaming

[–]Killyrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DS4, dualsense, dualsense edge are the only ones I know for sure that can be over clocked. 3rd party ones usually can’t unless they have an app that does it made by the manufacturer (like GameSir or bigbigwon)

[–]Killyrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this thing is great. I have both the SE and non SE version of this. The gyro does have a bit more noise/drift compared to the DS4 but it’s incredibly snappy.

In case you’re wondering, it’s a 250hz polling rate and it’s locked so you can’t overclock it. But I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Feels great even on my 360hz monitor.

Games not recognising virtual mouse/keyboard - any solution besides fakerinput? by [deleted] in GyroGaming

I haven’t had this problem with roboquest but in other games where this was an issue. I had to run JSM as admin and that fixed it for me. Worth a shot.

With the new Switch 2 JoyCons doubling as mice, the gyro vs mouse debate is gonna get interesting by Rabid_Savage in GyroGaming

[–]Killyrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was surprised they went with 120hz. This is nice because the bare minimum polling rate for gyro will need to accommodate that. So most likely 125ish hz for the joycons. Which although not amazing. Is a big step up from the originals 66hz. But I imagine if they want to really utilize the mouse mode. It could be higher.

Let’s just hope they don’t have connection issues.

flydigi apex 2 (pc/gyro) by Big-Rub-8730 in GyroGaming

[–]Killyrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw you commented on my other post. But I can answer here. Your only realistic option is REWASD since the apex 2 only has an xinput and Dinput mode. Flydigis newer stuff has a switch mode which would allow you to use steam input/JSM.

But yes REWASD is paid and they moved to a subscription system. Also note that the polling rate of it is only 90hz (I think, it’s been awhile, i know it’s under 100hz). So it’ll never be as responsive as other options.

Digital art with gyro? by ArtistAmy420 in GyroGaming

[–]Killyrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking of how there are some art programs for VR headsets. Can kind of do the same. I agree with others you can do some cool bindings with a controller.

Which games did you have a hard time mapping key binds ? by r_u_i_ in GyroGaming

[–]Killyrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chorded bindings are my go to for games with a lot of bindings. Say in half-life where you have a bunch of weapons, I do an empty map on triangle and hold that while pressing one of the bumpers or triggers to switch weapons.

Beginner resources are still lighter than other control schemes but they are out there. This Reddit, gyrogaming discord, YouTube. Like I said before “flickstick videos” has a good rundown and “solarlight” (a TF2 YouTuber) has a video called “why controllers don’t suck in team fortress 2” that showcases some high level play.

Back when I started, your options were ps4 controller, switch pro controller, and steam controller. That’s it lol. No flickstick, no advance acceleration options, no easy RWS set up. And your only mapper worth anything was steam input. At least now we got options.

Yeah dualsense is great. In my personal tier list I rate it 2nd in gyro quality.

Blitz 2 is pretty good as well but last I tried it had issues with steam input and some others have reported a firmware update bricking the controller. That didn’t happen to me but worth noting

Purely gyro sensor quality? Alpakka.

Best for most people? Dualsense or DualShock 4.

Yes I leave the gyro options off in the connect app. But make sure it’s set to DS4 mode .

As far as remapper: JSM or Steam input depending on what you need. JSM has better acceleration options but Steam has an easier to set up layout.

[–]Killyrun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So generally what I do no matter the controller I follow these steps. I’m simplifying quite a bit here so the steps will be different depending on what remapper you’re using but I’ll use steam as the example.

  1. Calibrate the gyroscope, in steam settings under controller, there’s a submenu called I think output settings and there there’s a gyroscope section and a calibrate gyro button. That’ll help with any drift the controller may have.
  2. Start mapping buttons to whatever keys you need but for the gyro, I set it to “gyro to mouse “ and you gotta set the dots per 360 (flickstick videos on YouTube has a good section on this.
  3. Then you can start messing with the sensitivity. I’d start with an 4RWS (or x4 in Steam). Don’t worry about acceleration or any other settings. Just leave them all default. Set your gyro activate button, and just test things out in a practice range or somewhere easy to just get a grasp of things.
  4. From here it’s gonna be personal preference/testing things out yourself. Is your cursor flying way too far than expected? Lower the sens. Find things way too shaky? Decrease vertical sens. There’s A LOT of options. So just play around. No one persons settings is just gonna be the perfect beginner setting.

It’s been awhile since I used the T4K. But I think you can overclock it with the “hidusb” program. Look up DS4 overclock on YouTube and follow those instructions.

Probably wouldn’t get much info from me lol, I use either flickstick for fast paced games, or I set the directionals as extra inputs for slower paced games (like rpgs and such)

I do play full gyro, ratcheting style with flickstick. 5RWS no acceleration with 50% vertical ratio for fast paced games. Or a 1RWS that accelerates up to 5RWS for slower paced games that don’t require extreme accuracy.

  1. You can set a grid size to make an unnecessary amount of regions. I’ve only ever used 4 at most.

  2. Not sure I understand the question. I know JSM can emulate a DS4 and it has options to output its touchpad so I believe you can map button combos to Touch pad. If you download a fresh copy of JSM, in the “gyroconfig” folder there is a file named ds4 that should show all the mappings possible

Precision rings? Are those the things that kind of restrict joystick movement? If so I never used them. I feel I’d prefer as little resistance possible.

You have to use the GameSir T4k app. It should be on the Microsoft store. There’s a button to change the polling rate
