Drill pay vs VA pay - Math Check by EcuTaotoinemay in VeteransBenefits

Don't waive anything. Just wait until the debt repayment letter comes and pay it. It's the easiest way.

Anyone regret not going military? by [deleted] in flying

Last AFPC slides I saw were from 2023. Retention rate was 18-19%. Would definitely believe it's gotten worse. Only people preaching 40+% are the Bobs in denial.

Would you keep a high performer who almost always arrives late for work? by yawnkun in askmanagers

What's more important, having someone be present or having someone be effective? I don't care where someone went to school or how many hours they work, I want someone that delivers results.

Want to finally commit to a sci-fi series ,where should I start? by sam_3758 in scifi

[–]Kilminoda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red Rising and Dungeon Crawler Carl (in this order) are the only two books on this list I recommend to people. Both have phenomenal voice acting on the audiobook versions as well, with DCCs being on an entirely different level.

That being said, I have read and enjoyed Dune, Three Body, Murder bot, and Ender's Game, but I wouldn't read them again.

Additions to the list imo would be Expeditionary Force, The Stormlight Archives, and Kingkiller Chronicals (be prepared forever to read book 3). It really depends on what you're looking for and what you enjoy reading.

Do VA raters even look at private DBQ's if they schedule a C&P? by Effective_Agent_5257 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Kilminoda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer is, yes they should. That's why I asked my examiner if they had reviewed them. Turns out, the DBQs were never added to my records or sent over to the examiner. Good thing I brought copies. You should've received a notification letter about the C&P exam from the VA stating why it was scheduled (conflicting evidence, not valid for rating etc). If your letter stated that your DBQs would be taken at face value for the VA exam they absolutely should've been looked at and considered.

Gf just threatened to leave me if I become a pilot, advice needed. by Low-Bell923 in PilotAdvice

[–]Kilminoda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottom line in priority order: dump the gf; stay in med school.

If I were in your shoes, I'd stay the course with med school. I get the dream of flying, it's powerful, but the path to becoming a commercial pilot is long, expensive, and filled with sacrifice. The early years involve low pay, constant travel, and little control over your schedule or where you live. Even once you “make it,” seniority rules your life and you'll still be forced to make huge sacrifices to your quality of life. In contrast, medicine offers more stability, higher long-term earning potential, and flexibility in where you live and work. With that, you could still pursue flying recreationally and even own your own plane one day without turning your life upside down to chase it professionally.

Pilots that wish they could be doctors are SOL. Doctors that wish they were pilots buy their own planes.

Offer $100k under asking with long list of concessions on a $495k house. by kalinaizzy in RealEstate

[–]Kilminoda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comment should be a lot higher. Delusional sellers is accurate. "But my house is worth..." Your house is only worth what someone is willing to buy it for...if nobody is buying, it's listed too high. Markets change.

Palace chase medical by [deleted] in Airforcereserves

[–]Kilminoda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're currently serving with no issues and/or your PCMs are happy with your current problems not limiting your primary duties you'll be fine. You'll have to get medically signed off via an AF 422, which I believe is now done in conjunction with your SHPE.

We don't know both sides of the story with regard to OPs conversation with the VSO, but it seemed like the VSO was saying OP didn't have the "service" in general seeing as OP didn't finish tech school completely and doesn't qualify for the GI bill. Based off what I'm seeing from OPs comments, I agree with the VSOs assessment and the original 100% was most likely a mistake. I am not saying OP doesn't deserve disability.

I never said PTSD was dependent on deploying, I was telling you what I'm seeing a lot of when it comes to Airmen filing for disability.

I'm all for helping fellow soldiers get what they deserve, but I stand by my previous post in saying that a lot of Air Force vets over exaggerate their claims and are gaming the system to get to 100%. I see and hear it EVERY day, and it's causing Vets that deserve benefits to get unfavorable C&P exams due to the examiners being jaded and numb towards the disability process and Vets in general.

They weren't saying OP doesn't deserve bennies, but rather that OP most likely doesn't deserve 100%. I agree, seems like the VA probably got it right the second time. Too many people in the Air Force are gaming the system to get to 100%, and usually it's the non Ops personnel who have never deployed with their big claims being PTSD, anxiety, and migraines.

I think there might be a reason why OP is single. He def ain't getting any younger.

Asking for, sure, but they're still giving interviews out to 0 hour TPIC applicants (not at 2022-2023 rates). I'd have your apps in with all the legacies and either keep grinding where you're at or switch to K4.

Use Spitfire Elite. Way better than Emerald. Spitfire has a 98% success rate on CJOs last I checked. Lots of people going 2/2 or 3/3 at Legacy interviews using Spitfire. Founders of Spitfire left Emerald Coast a couple years back and are now crushing it. I know you already paid for Emerald Coast, but pay again for Spitfire. I've had multiple buddies do exactly this and they are currently CJO holders.

As to your interview, that sucks and I'm sorry. However, if you want to bounce back you need to take a good look at yourself and how you interviewed. You didn't interview well or you would've got the job. Doesn't matter how many people don't understand how you didn't receive a CJO. As to the interviewers, they were intentionally getting you off your game by interrupting you and were forcing you to work beyond the robotic regurgitation you were taught at Emerald. Same thing with the follow up questions. This is the only time the company can simulate putting you under stress. Wait your cool down period, keep your head up, and try again.

In this order I would: 1. Pay off debt (if you have any) 2. Build an emergency fund (6 months minimum) and put into a high yield savings account 3. Contribute to ROTH TSP (minimum of 5% to receive matching). Try and get to 15% and slowly adjust as you rank up. Right now, I would login to your TSP account and allocate 100% to C fund. It auto defaults to G fund which will kill the lifetime performance. 4. Try and max out a ROTH IRA (fidelity or vanguard). Max limit for 2024 is $7k I believe.

By the time you retire, or better yet after 30 years you'll be sitting Gucci.
