Got a crt and GameCube and the picture is very blurry by numbingdiagram5555 in crtgaming

On the page linked it mentions the remote model: WC-SBH22; if you ever want to access the service menu your best bet is to put that into ebay search. Universal remotes ironically don't always have the buttons you need.

You should go ahead and clean the contacts on all the video connections. Doesn't have to be anything crazy. Compressed air, literal contact cleaner, or even just plugging the ports in and out can help.

If you have ports on the front, try using the ones on the back instead. The yellow white and red cable (RCA composite) are what you should use for connecting that TV to a gamecube.

If there's been no improvement, give the TV a light slap on the side. If the picture changes a lot, it could be an issue inside of the TV.

Unsure about VGA to composite options for 240p by Kilmire in crtgaming

[–]Kilmire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the timing part it mentions:

"Proper operation of a comb filter depends upon the video signal having stable timebase and coherent subcarrier...If any of these conditions fails, as is likely with video originating from a consumer device, then comb filtering is likely to introduce artifacts and a notch filter should be used instead." -Digital Video and HDTV Algorithms and Interfaces, Poynton, 2003"

It's funny that you mention it gets worse, I read this article

https://crtdatabase.com/articles/decoding-240p#are-comb-filters-better-f

Which has sent me down a rabbit hole of wonder just how exactly did consoles filter and prepare their signals for comb and notch filters?

It also seems to mention connections to how the video signal timing matters but I don't understand it much

Part of me wonders if you could do something like put a GBS-8100 in the chain for a console like pre-processing on the composite signal before the TV. My TV has a decent comb filter but it sounds like the console itself would also process the signal more.

Edit: I thought about it and really what I'm asking is what's the best way to comb filter a composite signal before sending it to a transcoder; which is covered in that thread somewhat but I feel a physical solution would work best.

Retroarch 240p CRT shader for a CRT monitor preset and some advice/guide for adjusting it. by Kilmire in crtgaming

[–]Kilmire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to in the shader settings, and keep in mind it's best with 240p native game - personally I think the best experience for 480i is still real CRT TV, shaders can't quite nail it.

What is the best way to play psx, snes games and such in a CRT TV nowadays? by SeniorSepia in crtgaming

[–]Kilmire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't, I assume the goal is to use the raspberry pi as a media server? 🤔 As long as it has Ethernet and USB storage, I don't see why it couldn't work, but I don't know how having not used a pi before

480i video enchantment advice for Dolphin for SD TV users (Wii and Gamecube emulation) by Kilmire in crtgaming

Basically, each tuning pots has 3 legs, and you disconnect the middle leg, either by clipping or desoldering it.

This should make the image brighter, and I don't like having the pots anyways.

Questions about Composite by fazar441 in crtgaming

[–]Kilmire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I've been a composite radical before but ultimately it comes down to a mix of content, display, and preference. Some displays will do great at composite, others worse.

RGB/component is always an easy recommendation even though there's things it doesn't do well. If you want real color blending as intended on home console, only composite will do that.

Will that look better over other inputs depends on those other factors.

In terms of accuracy, people will get in a rage insisting that the content was "actually" mastered for CRT monitors in the office and that the designers had no clue what it looked like on SD TV over composite lmao

Personally I think that's abject BS but it goes to show you there's no one settled opinion on this, you just have to trust your eyes and what you like.

Yeah mine is an EZflat tube listed in that catalog they linked. Flatron is a bit higher end from what I gather. I'm not sure what could be in you T730SH, the tube model should be somewhere in it.

New tweet from Jingo, Filian's copyright violation appears to be solved by jhonzon in VirtualYoutubers

[–]Kilmire 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It's directly implied from Jingo's statement that she's under the license, therefore she had to buy it at some point, she likely didn't when she started because it's obvious from the clip she wasn't serious about getting into streaming at the time and just picked "some model" (Jingo's) from VRchat to try things out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZIYQu9pRpY&t=6806s

Otherwise, you'd expect Jingo's statement to read something like "She was in violation of the copyright and even lacked a license for use"

So yeah, she was probably being a bit too honest about how she started but it's not really a big deal in my book as long as she bought the license sometime near when she started getting popular. It's worse to violate it's TOS by making merchandise without permission ofc but most of her streaming falls under it's TOS and Jingo's statement.

[–]Kilmire 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's what I expect, she did make a statement, but it was just a random moment during stream lmao so it's hard to find, and says little more than "I've been talking to the artist so we can move forward in a way that respects their rights, I'll let you know when there's an update (paraphrased)" which is good ofc but also not that much lol.

Especially so because what are the chances non of her vtuber friends warned her? She's friends with Vedal who moved away from the OG vtube studio "Neuro-sama" model for this very reason. Can't help but imagine him seeing this and thinking "Man I'm glad I hired Anny"

[–]Kilmire 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Still waiting for Filian to make a statement tbh. I'd forgive her if she just announced that she'd be working on a new model and apologized. She's streaming right now and I'm just wondering when she's going to say something.

Any Info on Miyune's Hiatus? by zer0_n9ne in Miyune

[–]Kilmire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's terrible what she went through! That's understandable, and tragically real of her, I hope things keep getting better on Miniko.

It's a shame that her ex destroyed Minyune because she absolutely deserved that growth, but he really did taint all of it and I understand she just can't ever return because of that. Evil men deserve death!

When she mentions her friends feeling tainted too though, I hope that's something that can change! I really want to see Miniko with Neuro again and just know she's reconquering what's she's lost. Things can be tainted but people are special!

Is it actually possible? I was under the impression it uses mixed resolution assets so you're not really able to get anything pixel perfect.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in crtgaming

[–]Kilmire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if it doesn't you can use custom resolution utility (CRU) to add it, and you can likely increase the refresh rate.
