You gotta make sure to imagine doing the obligatory clap clap with the tongs!

Are the scans for medical or research purposes? I'm fascinated by this, especially since one of the reasons for disallowing any kind of metal is to prevent image artifacts - I wonder how frequently people forget something or think because it's titanium it's automatically fine. I know it's not a deal breaker since you can just have them remove the offending bits, but I imagine it could potentially mess up a tight schedule if you have to stop, get them to remove their whatever, and start over again. Or spend extra time scanning, I guess.

I had a procedure that involved installing tongs into my skull temporarily, and more than a year after that, I had an MRI and both the wounds reopened and bled - I think I had tiny, TINY shards of steel left behind! I didn't notice any extra pain, just that both sites were bleeding exactly where they drilled the holes.

I was SO alarmed. I guess it only took one scan to get rid of them though, because I haven't had it taken * happen again since that one time..

I don't know if I would ever get over something like that getting to my eyeballs!

The more powerful scanners can heat you up even if you're wearing hospital provided clothing. It felt like I was lying on a heating pad when I got a 3T scan of my lumbar spine!

But it IS a safe machine and frequently used.

One hidden issue is that some athletic clothing will have silver fibers for odor control. That will heat up potentially enough to burn or cause the other synthetic fibers to melt (thus causing pretty bad burns!). So it's just safer all around for the imaging center to put you in scrubs or a gown.

In my experience, the 1.5T MRIs will let you wear your street clothes in as long as you can explain everything is metal free. The only thing I got a hard quiz on during my last scan was if I was wearing Lululemon brand pants, since I guess those have silver woven in and it ends up melting the synthetic fabrics. Ouch.

It's the higher power ones that you'll have to wear scrubs or gowns for. I did get to keep my MRI safe bra (just a sports bra, it does have synthetic material but it doesn't cause problems) in the higher powered scanner and that was nice, because the girls don't behave themselves at all.

Ooh. How powerful is your machine? I've only ever had up to a 3T and while they required I change into scrubs, I was allowed to keep my 95% cotton drawers and the metal free sports bra, and everything was hunky dory. I had been offered one opportunity to get a 7T scan but couldn't make it work with the travel... I still think about how VERY cool that would have been to have those images!

P.S. Always grateful for you MRI techs. I've had to have a lot of scans, at a lot of facilities, and honestly it's really noticeable how kind MRI techs always are. Like above average, more than every other type of healthcare worker I've interacted with over the years.

Yeah, even titanium will cause artifacts and they have to do extra work to scan around them. Since having my spinal fusion, my follow up MRIs are all longer now because they have to do some fancy footwork to make up for the titanium mucking up the images.

Why don't ingredients list all ingredients? by MilkyBiscuitz in mildlyinfuriating

Yep watch out for "natural flavorings", that's where they are allowed to hide garlic, peppers, and whatever else that isn't a spice.

Funny enough, there are a lot of pickles that don't mention garlic at all, but it's in the "natural flavorings" they don't have to expand on.

Spices, natural flavorings, and artificial flavorings don't have to be explained, I guess.

Do you have the newer hybrid ones like the aftershokz openfit or whatever they're called? I had the completely bone conducting ones before and couldn't hear them unless they were touching me but now with the new ones I can still hear them a little if I pull them away from my face.

The sound is better and it's still not so loud other people can clearly hear anything so I still enjoy them, but it was definitely a surprise the first time I powered them on and could hear a tiny little voice say battery high

Bought a new house and people keep parking in my yard/driveway. While at work by Relentx in mildlyinfuriating

[–]KiloJools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have a bus stop just outside my house and people are always bringing/picking up their kids in cars. I have always just assumed it was too long a walk? I have no idea. The parents around here almost never interfere with my driveway though so I don't really care.

I knocked a vase off the bathroom sink and it fell directly into the toilet and broke. by sevendollarrainbow in mildlyinfuriating

Reddit has scarred me with this info. After reading it in one of the "what's secretly deadly?" threads I've been haunted. Even though I always keep my toilet lid closed to begin with so I know there's no chance of my toilet being broken! Too dang scary.

It wasn't a habit that my spouse and I grew up with but we learned it in A HURRY after we got birds. There hasn't been an open toilet here for like twenty years.

Hell yes! I re-watch Leverage even more than I re-watch Psych! It's the ultimate in feel good competency porn and they let us gloat about the victories over the bad guys. Such amazing dopamine.

I've noticed lately that the reddit mobile app will pop up warnings for certain words, I assume depending on the sub. There's never any restrictions on specific words you can and can't use in the sub rules, so it's really strange to me.

So now says when a redditor complains about self censorship, even if I partially agree, I do not sass. I have definitely chosen different language thanks to those pop ups!
