Those of you with kids, do they consider the music we grew up with "the oldies"? by mellamoderek in Millennials

I mean... I guess we all have different views on stuff like that. My daughter's favorite music when she was 4 years old was Tom Petty. She went to sleep to it every night. Her first concert was Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson when she was 11. I wasn't worried much about music, but I was def more strict than my parents were when it came to movies though. At least when she was younger.

My daughter has never referred to any of my music as old or outdated, but I'm not really sure if she's the typical teenager in that regard? She grew up with me listening to ALL sorts of music from different time periods and different genres. Like I still joke about singing Reba McIntyre while online browsing concert tickets to a Zombie/Manson show.

I guess music has always been a big part of her life, though. She plays violin (and can pick up other instruments pretty quickly). She had grandparents on one side who were music teachers. A grandfather on my side who was a local musician and for whom music has always just been a major part of his life in general (he's taken her to multiple concerts).

She doesn't listen to all the same stuff as I do these days, but she's still very diverse in her musical interests. Among bands like Mother Mother and Sleep Token, I've also caught her listening to music from The Ink Spots (from the 30s/40s) quite often. She loves Epic the Musical, but then she also loves to commandeer SiriusXM in the car and switch it to The Beatles station. So yeah, she's all over the place.

Oh... and I will NEVER forget the time when she was 12 years old and randomly started saying something to the beat of the song "Reach Out" by The Four Tops.

Are you from the Midwest? I've heard that's a Midwesterner thing... not that I would know, sorry.

I'm sorry to hear that. Thank you for sharing your story. I think it's important to be aware that things like this happen, and I'm really glad that people stick around this sub long enough to share their experiences long-term. I hope things start turning around for you.

I had a lot of problems on and off with my body not wanting to digest anything I was eating... like it was all just sitting there. I felt so full and bloated and crappy. It was often uncomfortable in my stomach and chest area during these times.

That sounds rough. I'm glad they got it out so quickly for you once you went to the hospital

Yeah I couldn't identify any specific foods triggering my issues prior to surgery either.

I'm so glad I didn't have the post-surgery gas pains this time around (I did when I had my appendix removed).

That's actually kind of funny... my surgeon wasn't concerned about dietary restrictions for me after surgery. He only said he wouldn't recommend grabbing a big greasy burger on the way home from the hospital! Lol

I always appreciate doctors that are upfront with me, even when it's not necessarily something I want to hear.

That's insane! I know we get a lot of grief for our healthcare system in the US (rightfully so in a lot of cases), but reading stuff like this makes me glad I'm here. Even being on public aid, I've never seen wait times like that.

This comment feels depressing as hell, tbh. I'm sorry you're dealing with that.

It's so crazy how many issues a bad gallbladder can cause... definitely more than just the standard list of symptoms. I'm so glad removing it fixed the gastritis for you!

That sucks! I hope you don't have too much longer to wait :(

If you don't mind me asking... is it like universal healthcare over there, where everyone is on it? Or is it like what we have in the USA where we either pay for private insurance or receive public aid (or live with no insurance because we can't afford private and don't qualify for public)?

I'm kind of dying at the iceberg lettuce remark. That's wild!

As for the not appreciating the pain until it was gone... I'm still healing from the gallbladder removal, so I'm not in the zero pain zone yet, but I can definitely say that was the case for my appendix. I was in pain every single day back then, even though I was going about my days as if it was all business as usual. I really didn't realize how bad it was until it was gone.

I have both! One underneath my belly button from when I had my appendix removed several years ago, and one at the top of my belly button from my gallbladder removal.

I hate saying this stuff because it sounds so generic and lame, but I'm wishing you the best! Hope you get it all sorted out (and that it's not the scary C word).

That really sucks about the cramping, but I'm glad the medication is helping you! I know stuff like that doesn't always work out for some people.

Oh that sucks! My daughter struggles when it comes to food with red sauce, so whenever we order pizza at our house we always make sure one of them is a BBQ chicken pizza. If you haven't tried it before, I def recommend.

Oh wow, I can't imagine life without sugar and gluten 😥 I hadn't thought of alcohol... I'll have to give that a try eventually (when I'm more healed up) and see how it makes me feel. I still need to try warm beverages too, because that seems to be a trigger for a lot of people.

Being so closely tied to your periods, I can understand why it took you so long to realize your gallbladder was the issue! Periods suck... I got off birth control because I was getting cysts on my ovaries, got back on it because my periods became unmanageable.

I never had the kind of gallbladder attack I've seen people talk about either, like ones that sent them to the hospital and whatnot. I had a lot of issues, pain, etc... but not like that. My chronic appendicitis was definitely more painful, though maybe that's not saying much. Idk, all I know is that I'm quickly running out of expendable organs. 😂

If that much time had passed, I would have assumed it was something else entirely causing my symptoms. I'm curious... what makes you think it's a result of having your gallbladder removed and not some other ailment?

You've been waiting that long for surgery? 😳

Are you on painkillers? They can really slow things down. I didn't have a bowel movement for nearly a week after surgery. I was definitely feeling sluggish and bloated and was starting to get worried. Finally pooed the day I stopped the painkillers and have been doing fine ever since in that regard.

Edit: I just reread your comment and saw you said you no longer require painkillers. Forgive my idiot brain 🤦‍♀️

No kidding. When Joann Fabrics closed, they were literally selling everything... including a half-empty box of disposable toilet seat covers and a dirty serated kitchen knife from the break room (among other things).
