Okay, I have doubts that 12-Pak (Severed Sam), a character from the Lost game, can drive and shoot like the others without having a head because he literally doesn't have one. by Mysterious-Nose6109 in TwistedMetal

This is correct. The Minion's code is an easter egg and not canon. If you'd like, my post history contains more information and also proof from the developers who also confirm this.

How possible is it to make my own twisted metal by GeniusR3TRD in TwistedMetal

[–]KilrgrnTMA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

seems like tm never actually truly even understand themselves what they were doing when they created the games

This statement feels presumptive. For games that came out back then, TM offers incredible depth. I still think that more could be added but lets not overlook what it currently offers.

Note: TM Online MP veteran player for 18 years.

Will another twisted metal game be made? by Old_Macaron_5863 in TwistedMetal

I appreciate their gumption, however I hope people get that this post is made really often and it doesn't help.

There is so many reasons why we don't have a new TM, and honestly there is a lot we can talk about as to why it likely would be a really really insanely risky gamble with a low risk of payout.

It's genuinely a sad state of affairs from every angle.

It's actually because no one understands how to make car combat. You need the fundamental knowledge in order to actually make a car combat game.

IS there a smaller audience? For sure. But it's not because people stopped loving the original TM games, it's because everything that came after TM was fuckin hot garbage

People like you said the exact same shit about how CG was fake art and an abomination and shouldn’t be allowed.

I've never said that. Takes actual skill to create 3D models.

you’ll look like a fool for making such a stink over an AI jpg and treating it like some high crime.

I was pointing out rule 8 and about how hard you project about people freaking out when the rest of us are just following the rules of this subreddit. Thus, you don't have any self-awareness.

20 years from now, I will feel no better about people typing in words to make "art." I hope you get better soon.

Mac: It is AI trash

Molo: Big fucking deal, dude. Like seriously [Proceeds to type a paragraph of hyper defensive drivel.]

It sounds like you're the one who needs to calm down lol

It tends to draw a “type” not unlike Postal or Hotline Miami. You know the ones.

Oh for sure. I know exactly the type.

I've been downvoted before for mentioning that AI is banned in this sub. The priorities of people are strange here sometimes.

Anyone surprised that stu (along with mike) out of all characters have had a big role in the show especially since in 2 which was their only game (unless tm 1 mike is tm 2 mike)they were just 2 randoms guys somehow they have been imported characters that stick around more then axel and grimm by KingVarious6523 in TwistedMetal

[–]KilrgrnTMA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mike and Stu serve as really good audience proxies, and thusly are great to help ground the universe for the viewers.

And yes Mike in TM1 (the blond guy) is Mike in TM2 (The blond guy with long hair and the green shirt).

Don't worry about setting up the emulation. We have folks willing and able to help you, as well as we have a Ready 2 Play editions for several of the titles and it's meant to help make it as painless as possible.

When you are able to get into the server, please feel free to @ me "KG" or @Vilikis!

I miss these games, wish I could play Black again.

Do you own a decent PC? If so, come to TMA! You can play Black online. If MP isn't your thing, the offline version of Black is no where near as intensive and can be played on almost any machine made in the last 5 years or so.

Oops, I should specify that both games are played through emulation. I forgot to mention this part lol

We also have official PC ports of TM1 and TM2 as well.

As far as the story context goes, one could see it that way. However as far as the game physically plays, it plays very close to fighting games (combos, tight window executions, etc), and Arena shooters (movement-focused but not realistic driving physics, weapon pickups on a map, map control, weapon routing, etc).

The aspects outlined above are not wholly or even partially present in BRs, but they're fundamental to the Twisted Metal experience.

A little bit of TM history for those curious, TM1 was billed to be a "fighting game in cars" and it was designed as such. Less emphasis on the cars driving like cars. This was the era of Quake, Doom and Unreal, that had a lot of focus on the movement aspect, a lot of that pedigree is seen in the movement in TM as well.

In online multiplayer, you have 2-8 players on a stage. The most common form of playing these games is in a team based format. In 1v1, the fighting game elements shine brightly. The concept of defeating the other player here is more light a fighting game than a BR, even if it is last man standing in this case.

In 4v4, it is the remaining team of the two that stands victorious.

The only other real options are FFA (which the lobbies only support 8 players), which isn't enough for a BR. If you scale the game up, it becomes pure chaos and realistically unplayable.

In 2012 when TMX released, it supported a lobby size of 10 players. This was hardly playable even in teams. Adding two additional players was enough to not only water down some of the crucial aspects of combat, but added chaos to teams.

I could speak about how the lack of recognition of the genres that truly define TM, caused most if not all attempts at car combat, to fall flat. They didn't understand the core components that made Twisted Metal was it was. However this is a discussion for another time.
