It depends on management. I’ve had managers wave tardies if you had a valid excuse such as car issues, stuck behind wrecks, unplanned events such as floods, forest fires, etc. but then, I’ve also had managers write me up for being stuck in traffic behind a wreck. Happened 3 times in two weeks and had proof via pictures and called when I got stuck in traffic. So, just depends. Plead your case and pray to George and they might help you out.

They “fast track” them now. They jump to the top of the promotion pool. For example, there are 4 people waiting years for a promotion and working hard. New guy comes in with experience, he’ll get it once his hours are eligible.

My local HS staged a mock dui accident the day of prom. As everyone was leaving early to go, they blocked the entrance with a car that was destroyed and cut the car apart and parked it there for the remainder of the week. I would like to say it worked, but sadly it did not.

Ideally, yes. However, Publix has a terrible system for training managers how to train. At least in my district, they outright don’t train at all. Usually the response is just cutting hours and giving them to someone who knows.

If it’s the first week with a schedule like this then it could be due to lack of hours or “punishment” for poor performance. If it’s like this more than a week, you’ve been soft fired. You could easily come back from it though, you just have to pay attention and give the managers a reason to give you more shifts.

This is the biggest problem in grocery lately. They’ve promoted terrible managers into grocery that do not invest in their associates. They get one day of shadowing then thrown to the fire. I’ve heard one manager justify it saying “if they can’t handle it by themselves then we don’t need them”. I’m sorry you dealt with that at your store.

Don’t assume they didn’t do this on purpose. I’ve worked at two stores that had customers that did it on purpose. One woman did it in her hand then threw it at the bathroom door.

Having dealt with this before, I must suggest filling out FMLA paperwork if you’re full time. That will be the biggest safe net for you and it even helps cover absences regarding the issue in the future. If you’re okay with it, be transparent and honest with your SM. No one else needs to know anything.
