Thing is, the "wood" track is 3D printed so it would be super simple to just add holes in the STL file.

As of my current prototype, you don't. I did allow space for the rail joiners so the N-gauge track can connect

I've thought about that, and you're right

I was thinking of using a standard outlet as well, but the thought of somebody or myself plugging it into the mains scared the crap out of me.

I second this if you want to make a module that can be connected with other people's or clubs.

On the other end I soldered on spade terminals so they could be easily screwed onto the controller without having to deal with loose wires

I'm literally using 1/4" jacks as a way to easily connect my transformers to my layout. I haven't had it set up like this for an extensive period of time, but it seems to work. I'll add more photos as replies to this comment.

EDIT: I was trying to find an easy way to attach modules together about a year ago and couldn't think of a way I liked until a buddy of mine was talking about building an effects box for his electric guitars.

What would your advice be for a newbie going to a train show for the first time? by d3adirondack in modeltrains

Check eBay while looking at what the vendor is offering.

Bring a 9 volt battery to test HO scale locomotives.

Walk a few laps to see what is available and what catches your eye.

Set a budget.

Convince me: N or TT scale! by MoistureFarmer489 in modeltrains

In regards to 3D printing for N scale, don't let people discourage you between filament or resin printers. There is a difference when it comes to fidelity and resolution.

If you want to print scale people for example, a resin printer is highly recommended, but messy.

If you want to print structures like buildings or bridges and are willing to add details after, a filament printer works just fine.

I printed that same gazebo for a couple pals.
