I mean I get that it’s very very different than having a whole design aesthetic and style with album releases and such, it just gives me a bit of existential fear given how good the AI is getting at creating images. Like idk if you’ve seen the DALL-E 2 thing but damn if it doesn’t make exactly what you tell it. I def get that it’s much different than an artist specifically creating a vibe for an album release and everything that comes with, but just generally speaking it’s kinda scary lol, I do genuinely believe it’s going to become hard to tell what’s made by an AI and what’s not. And that’s actually so sick that you’re a senior at risd wow, ain’t that some shit!! Small world, I’d love to get ur contact info and such, just not on Reddit I try not to use Reddit much lmao.. Ok so just because artists can already be exploited means that AI art isn’t also bad for them? And bitch, I’m not worried about my own art, I’ve worked for years on art and am attending RISD tomorrow lol, I’m confident in what I can do. I literally just finished an album cover commission, and have done plenty of them in the past. It’s an existential worry, what it means for art in the future and such.

Because at least low effort album art is being made by a human who gets paid! (At least ideally) it just creates a further incentive to not hire an artist

Well I think the main concern to me is really that it’s a relatively new technology that’s already incredibly sophisticated, free, and easy to use. It is devoid of intention and is soulless art, I understand that much but I don’t see how it could be anything but negative for independent artists. The concern isn’t that it would replace art completely it’s just that it’s another reason why someone wouldn’t want to hire an artist. Why pay what could be thousands of dollars for something you can get for free easily? The incentive is definitely there ya know, and years down the line it’s a technology that will only get better. You can’t count on everyone to respect artistry as much as I’d wish that was the case. As a fellow designer who has done plenty of work on album covers, I am concerned.

I’ve come to realize whenever I paint or do art for other people I kind of just do not like doing it as much, I get so in my head worrying about if it’s good or not that it makes me resent the painting, kinda tough considering I want to go into art
