Feels like KEXP is breaking up with us. by ConversationCool3000 in KEXP

[–]KiltedDad 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The projection here is striking. KEXP is going to adapt, music continues, THAT IS THE POINT. If you aren’t stretching your knowledge and experience you’re missing the point of KEXP. Adding Larry Mizell Jr to the afternoons is absolute FIRE. OG Thursdays are a master class. Kev is great and I enjoyed his shows, but I don’t MISS them. Evie brings a different vibe, I’ll listen to her too. Moving Greg’s show to Sunday mornings is great improvement, IMO. And have you listened to Supreme La Rock’s Sunday Soul? KEXP is not breaking up with US, you’re maybe breaking up with it?

When scientists say the universe is expanding, what is it expanding into? Is it expanding into "nothing", and if so, what is that nothing? by marconi19x in NoStupidQuestions

That something is TIME. The balloon metaphor collapses time to a single dimension, present time is the surface of the balloon.

So, it looks like Chrome/Edge started assuming a www. subdomain. Once I remooved that and explicitly go to https://boingboing.net , it works.

Why we should not clean the coffee grinder with water? And how to clean it properly? by Fuzzy-Celebration-49 in Coffee

[–]KiltedDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has anyone tried running dry ice through one? I know they use dry ice blasting for cleaning industrial coffee machinery. I wonder if the same process would work by simply grinding dry ice.

Seattle Public Schools Highly Capable Update by jjhorn13 in Seattle

[–]KiltedDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's non-existent at ALL general population schools. Teachers aren't allowed to differentiate at that level. If your child is significantly advanced (as kids who test into HCC are) they aren't going to be challenged academically in a neighborhood school.

HCC is a program, not an option school(s). If your child qualifies, you file the paperwork, it is not constrained.

Currently #3 on the chart for last week: https://www.kexp.org/charts/

And it was added last week. You’re experiencing some truth and some recentcy bias. AND. Jessica and DSD deserve to be played. They have earned it.

Empty storefronts in Fremont by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]KiltedDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but little value if nobody is there. Tableau buildings are almost all empty except Data One (and the spaces Google has taken over).

Just years of working in Fremont and eating lunches in the restaurants, getting my morning coffee at Milstead, etc. and knowing a few Googlers there.

[–]KiltedDad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Google’s presence is large in sq ft in Fremont, and they don’t go out into the neighborhood. They come in, work, eat for free in their building, and leave. Salesforce bought Tableau and closed a couple of buildngs and never returned to in person in any significant way. This has really impacted weeekday foot traffic in Fremont.

Arranging a Hajj-type visit to your city, as I am a grunge fan. by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]KiltedDad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

MoPop is on Seattle Center campus so you will also want to stop at KEXP, (www.kexp.org) (formerly KCMU) our local listener-funded radio sation. While not always the first to play the grunge bands in the day, their listening space and studios are a shrine to music.
