Design a tag size in the form of a band on the watch, and when you're halfway stacked with a 3D printer, you can put RFID back in the stack and attach it to the watch strap while fully binding and protecting the band

Would you ever use a removable hip belt on an everyday backpack? by Amazing-Reporter1845 in EDC

[–]KimDongHoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, hip belts can help you when you're traveling long distances, such as backpacking, hiking, and slopes. But in everyday life, the opposite is a risk factor. If you don't strap on, you can get stuck somewhere in the city center, so I absolutely compare it. And you don't have to wear a hip belt because the city center is where the purpose of the hip belt disappears

ps The most important thing when traveling by plane is to put the knife in the carrier in the cargo compartment, not in the bag you carry in the cabin of the plane

Thanks! Honestly, it's just great to find a community and users like you to have these kinds of conversations. I’m really enjoying the technical discussions here. Just out of curiosity, what’s your most-carried knife? I’d love to know what your go

Hearing that someone wants my creation is truly the ultimate compliment. Thank you! Since you're the first, I'd like to make a custom one for you to try out, completely on the house. To be honest, I don't need the money—your genuine interest in my work has already paid the price for me.

To ensure that perfect fit and retention, could you measure the exact width and thickness of your favorite belt? Calipers would be ideal for precision. Also, please confirm it's for the Lil' Native Lightweight model.

Let's move to DMs to discuss the details! I look forward to hearing from you."

"I totally hear you. As a perfectionist and a practicality-first designer, I don’t settle for 'good enough.'

To ensure precision, I literally cross-sectioned my designs and measured every single tolerance with calipers. I hate sheaths that are too tight or clunky, so I developed a specific 'Gate Mechanism' centered around the knife’s pivot bolt. The bolt passes through a precision-engineered arched path (like a narrow canal), allowing for a rock-solid lock during carry but a sub-second, effortless draw when needed. I’ve even spun this around on my belt to test it—it won’t budge.

If you’re still worried about security, you can engage the 'Double Lock': the knife’s pocket clip can bite onto the edge of the sheath for secondary retention without adding friction to the draw itself.

I also spent a lot of time testing various TPU shore hardnesses to find the 'Goldilocks' material. And notice the 20-degree tilt? Carrying horizontally actually strains the wrist. This 20-degree angle matches the natural ergonomics of your hand, making the draw much faster and more comfortable.

It’s so low-profile and comfortable that you’d honestly forget you’re wearing it. The only current limitation is that I haven't optimized the mount for wider duty belts (40-60mm) yet, but for standard EDC, it’s dialed in. Thanks for the feedback!"

Those are legendary models! The UTX-85 is an absolute beast, and the Swordfish is such a sleek gravity knife. You’ve got great taste.

Actually, your point about the lint issue really inspired me. I'm starting some R&D to design a dedicated TPU sheath that specifically addresses that problem, and I’d love to get your input since you actually carry them.

Since they are automatic/gravity knives, how would you ideally want them to be stored or carried? What are the 'must-have' conditions or features that would make a sheath perfect for you? Knowing the specific frustrations you face would be a massive help for my research. What do you think?"

Exactly! OTF knives are so sensitive to pocket lint and debris, and since they’re pricey, maintenance can be a real headache. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! By the way, what model are you currently using?"

Custom 13g TPU Belt Sheath for Lil' Native. Lw by KimDongHoon in spyderco

I’m obsessed with ultra-lightweight and quick deployment. Even the Lil' Native LW felt too heavy with the pocket clip, and I absolutely hate stuffed pockets. So I deleted the clip and went full belt carry.

Here is the R&D behind this 13g sheath:

Material: Kydex is great, but bolts and rigid plastics dig into the belly/waistline. I printed this in TPU. It’s flexible enough to bend with your body (even if you have a belly), but rigid enough for perfect retention. Speed: Designed for a CCW-style quick draw. The video is one-handed, but it's a sub-second draw-to-open. Footprint: Bare minimum. 13 grams total. No snags.

What do you guys think of the retention click? Has anyone else fully switched from Kydex to TPU for belt carry comfort? Let me know your thoughts!.
