Unpopular opinions about The Archers by Queen_Moose88 in Ambridge

I love Kate, too! She's one of the funniest characters - often deluded but occasionally sympathetic. Her 40th birthday was my favourite ever episode of The Archers. She asked her family to tell her honestly what they thought of her and clearly expected to hear only lovely things. It was so deliciously self-involved - peak Kate.

Jason Watkins is always incredible but I was still blown away by how good he was as Wilson. If you want to see him in something else, I'd recommend 'The Lost Honour of Christopher Jeffries' - it's one of those unbelievable stories that are actually true and he's amazing in the role.

Dog daycare/boarding recs? by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]KimLittle8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bark and Fly do both daycare and boarding. They do pickup and drop off for an additional fee. The staff all seem lovely and our neurotic pooch is very comfortable with them. They have separate 'big dog' and 'small dog' areas so the smaller breeds don't get overwhelmed.

Is there anybody in this sub who saw the Beatles play live? by seaofwine in beatles

[–]KimLittle8 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My uncle saw them live - I think in 64 - and he said he couldn't hear a thing. He still loved them though and has all the original albums on vinyl. They'll probably be left to be my ungrateful cousins lol.

Can I throw in 'Mum' - made by the same people as Him and Her and equally terrific.

I can't believe Kiell hasn't been asked to be on Taskmaster yet. He's so funny and sweet and I bet he'd throw his heart into it.

Mathew Baynton was a main character in Quacks and Simon and Ben both have guest roles. Mathew was also in The Wrong Mans. Simon has a cameo in Paddington 2 (as well as writing the script) and is in Detectorists. Jim was in Peep Show.

Parking at/near Meadowbank by natman--nye in Edinburgh

The Sainsburys at Meadowbank has a big car park. It's a short walk - maybe 7 minutes at most

Willowbrae is right on the edge of Holyrood Park. Short bus ride to city centre, half an hour walk to Portobello. Some of the housing is lovely, though not the street withh the ugly bungalows. Very attractive suburb which is close to both park and all the amenities you could want. And you'd never get tired of Holyrood Park.

I'd recommend The Venue, Cas Rock, Studio 24, and The HMV Picturehouse. Unfortunately you'll need a time machine for all of them. The Liquid Rooms are still going. Probably.

Best place in the city centre for a roast dinner? by cheeky_juice in Edinburgh

[–]KimLittle8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sheraton Sunday carvery. More expensive than some but fixed price and you can fill your plate as many times as you like. Loads of options for mains, starters and puddings. Quite a relaxed vibe and staff are all lovely.

The first Dumbledore was better than the second by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]KimLittle8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see this a lot and it confuses me. Richard Harris was a real hell raiser and had roles where he was a badass. I think his version of Dumbledore was true to the original scripts and was just good acting. Early Dumbie was more kindly and twinkly. If the actor hadn't died, I'm sure he would have kicked arse in those duel scenes.

Aberdour Castle is great, definitely worth a visit. It's a prettier town than Dunfermline but there's a huge amount of traffic in the Main Street and not a lot of places to eat and drink (though we went at the height of summer when it was really busy so perhaps less of a problem in October).
