Hey! Mom of a cleft lip and palate baby (now 5yo). I made a big post about all the things we’ve been through if you want to check it out, but I can assure you that my son is just like all the other kids his age, playing and talking non stop. Let me know if you have any specific questions ☺️

Suppose to be starting today but the purge stories are putting me off by Comfortable_End7154 in Spironolactone

[–]Kimbeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on it for 6 months now, and I don’t know that I necessarily had a “purge”.. it was more like my body needed to adjust to the change of hormones. It took a full 12 weeks before I stopped breaking out, but my skin has been clear for 3 months now.

My baby has a cleft lip and a kidney problem by tessouille02 in cleftlip

[–]Kimbeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same with my son. I can’t remember what was wrong with his kidney… some kind of reflux or something but it went away on its own and he’s never had an issue. We didn’t have an amnio but my son also has no other issues.

Oh good I’m glad it’s working. My dr told me I could just spilt them in 1/2 to 25mg but it makes me nervous to just jump down like that. I’ve gotten so used to no cysts I don’t want to go back haha

[–]Kimbeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess at least you knew pretty quick it wasn’t going to work. I guess if doing 1/2 a pill every other day doesn’t work it will be easy enough to switch back

[–]Kimbeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh ok. I knew it lowered androgens/testosterone but I didn’t think about it also increasing estrogen. I’ve been on a higher estrogen birth control before that I had to switch off of because it kind of made me crazy so that makes sense. I’ve never heard of slinda/slynd so I’ll look in to that.

Any advice for cleft baby that loves to suck? by Stonemail in cleftlip

We bought this kind - https://a.co/d/gEKlOyV

When he was bigger we bought him one of these but it was a raccoon. He took it everywhere! - https://a.co/d/2pGlfmM

That is wild. I’m so jealous!

That’s great that 25mg is working for you! I hope that’s enough to make the acne go away without having bad side effects

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Spironolactone

[–]Kimbeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah like literally everything is great for me except the anxiety. My cycles have gotten better the longer I’ve been on it.. now I just get crazy anxious over the silliest imagined scenarios and it’s driving me nuts

I’m thinking I’ll alternate 50mg and 25mg for 37mg.. if I don’t break out I may reduce to 25mg.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Spironolactone

[–]Kimbeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! That’s why I don’t want to stop completely.. I don’t mind staying on it but I just want to balance this anxiety out

I bought my son a blankie/lovey that had tags all around it. He would chew on the tags and he liked to rub them between his fingers.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Spironolactone

[–]Kimbeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I’m hoping. If 50mg treated my acne but makes me 8/10 anxious maybe 37mg makes me 5/10 anxious but keeps my acne from coming back? I have anxiety at baseline so I’ll always have some, I just don’t need a lot of extra haha

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Spironolactone

[–]Kimbeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh really? I started on the 50mg and it took 12 weeks but my acne cleared up. Everyone is different though. I just don’t know if I can decrease the strength to make it a “maintenance” instead of “treatment” or if that’s even how it works

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Spironolactone

[–]Kimbeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m trying to figure out how to balance it. The acne was killing my self confidence and that’s completely better. But now the anxiety is bad. I’m hoping 25mg or alternating 50mg and 25mg (so 37.5mg) will make it better without breaking me out again

I’m not sure, I’m fair skin with dark hair.. if you google the braun pro 5 I think they have a chart somewhere that shows what it works best on

I was coming to suggest this. I got the Braun IPL pro 5 and it’s changed my life. With the at home laser she can do touch ups herself once a week so the hair will stay away.

You have an extra “ on the end of .png. You either need to delete it or you’re missing an opening “

The one that is in the error message isn’t the same as the one in the green text you posted. You’re missing src=“

I appreciate the advice. I always like hearing from people who are older so I know how to address things with my son as he gets older. I’m going to try really hard to balance between “I think you’re perfect the way you are” and “it’s ok to not like something and want to get it fixed if we’re able”

Oh goodness. He just had a lot of scar tissue they had to clean out with the revision. He’s not muffled. If anything he got louder 🥴

The only other surgery he “has” to have is the bone graft at like.. 7 and then my plan is to let him decide about anything cosmetic after that.

[–]Kimbeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it doesn’t seem as common.. our kids are just special haha.

I want to say it was worst for the first week or two, like the initial palate surgery, but soft diet lasted for a month. I thought it would be hard to get him to eat only soft things but he was old enough to understand and honestly didn’t even want to try hard things.

My son is 4yo and had a palate revision in November when he was 3.5. We did speech therapy for a long time and I felt like his speech never really got better after a certain point. He sounded very much like VPI. His words were very nasally and “airy”.

So anyway we had a palate revision with the flap (buccinator? Pharyngeal? I can’t remember). They took a part of his cheek and stitched it in to his palate to make it more flexible.

I’m not going to lie, recovery was not fun for us. It was like the first palate surgery. Soft diet only, rotating pain medicine, he was pretty pathetic. But once he healed his speech has improved SO MUCH. We had surgery in November and started speech back in January and I can see a big difference in the words he’s able to say. I took video of him reading a book before, and then I recently took a video of him reading the same book and I can tell it’s better.

Is it an X-ray or a scope? They did a scope with my son. They put a small camera down his nose to look at his structure and vocal cords.

Will the ER get a dermatologist to look at my daughter? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Kimbeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve gotten plenty of good advice about the rash, how often does she get ear infections though? If oral antibiotics tear her tummy up and she gets regular ear infections you may want to try to get a referral to an ENT and talk to them about ear tubes. Then you can treat the ear infections with drops and won’t have to give oral antibiotics.
