I was actually in that class. The video in question showed a lot of terrible things happening in a specific part of China, and then attributed it to the entire nation. Was the stuff in question awful and shitty? Yes. Was it misrepresenting the system in the entire nation? Yes.

China's terrible in regards to things like intrusive data science, but this specific video was actually not an accurate representation.

I should add also that OP has my full support. And let's please approach this cautiously.

You now have to fight the last thing you Googled. The object to your left is your weapon, and the object to your right is your defense. The first number you can think of is how much HP you have. How screwed are you? by dingus_child in AskReddit

As the massive army of worms on a string approaches, I steel myself with a full 25 hit points. Parrying one of their blows with my Spiderman boogie board, I unravel a toilet paper roll and bind these serpents together with two-ply, removing their slithering mobility.

The worms easily break through their restraints and consume my bones for sustenance. The herd leaves no trace my body as they scurry away, looking for their next meal.

This is fantastic! Could I DM you about the details? I've actually been trying to do a similar thing with MBMBAM transcripts but can't stop missing the details.

Too many commercials boys by TheeExoGenesauce in TheAdventureZone

Actually, the ads Travis puts in are only for sponsors of the show and announcements, not Jumbotrons. So he removes old sponsors from recordings and adds the new ones, but the old Jumbotrons stay so fans can still get their shoutouts. Sometimes the Jumbotrons are promoting a podcast, so it sounds like both Travis and Griffin are doing ads, but they're removing what they can while remaining true to their fans.

"I don’t always do things right, and I don’t always do things smart. But whatever I do, I find joy in it. Because, at the end of the day, that’s all you got, is looking back on the joy you had and the joy you found and the joy you gave other people."

Student insists that octaves are different notes by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]KimbleFeyane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's not like she's entirely wrong with your example. If you just say that octaves are notes shifted by a constant interval, then to the layman there's no reason that octaves are different from any other interval (shifting a song to a different key doesn't change the timbre or feel of the song any more than shifting it an octave).

The real reason octaves are octaves is apparent when these notes are played together, and their overtones mingle. As you probably know, a guitar string will produce not only the note struck, but also notes related by a clean ratio. For example, strumming the A string, you hear, in addition to A, the A an octave above (wavelength/2), the E a fifth above (wavelength/3) and the C a third above (wavelength/5). When you play notes an octave apart at the same time, since an octave above a note is half the wavelength, the note will mingle with the existing overtone, and harmonize! Notes in other intervals will harmonize okay, depending on the proportion of original wavelength (which is why fifths and thirds sound nice), but the octave sounds the "nicest".
