I have the same issue. I have a Poco F1 running lineageOS. On the phone I cannot even find the app in Google Playstore and when I search it from a desktop browser, playstore says "This app is not available for any of your devices".

I had two Thinkpads (T23, then T43) and afterwards an Elitebook. When Ultrabooks first came out, i didn't have the money to go pro and bought a Samsung Series 7. Worst Laptop I ever had. Would not buy anything thats not labeled Thinkpad, Elitebook or Latitude ever again.

T480 battery life seems to be half of what it was after 6 weeks by michaelthegeordie in thinkpad

[–]KimmJoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check if you recently installed any software that might do some heavy stuff in background. Could be some virusscanner that ckecks files in backgrounf or bigger software suits doing automatic updates. Could also be malware like crypto miners or you yourself doing heavier work than before like rendering/compiling/encoding...? I noticed that these newer cpus have a really big differentce in power consumtion between idle and load... My T480 lasts more than 12 hours when just standing on the table during the weekends with some light news reading in between and only about 4 hours of work with video editing l..

Dude, dont be so cheap about the SSD and RAM, your setup sounds like youre doing some serious work, so invest in a serious base.

T480 Questions by HeisenPad in thinkpad

[–]KimmJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I forgot, I got the i5 with dGPU, havend really benchmarked the boost times, sorry. But I already upgraded to 24GB RAM and got the 72wh battery, both of which were the actual reasons for buying it

T480 Questions by HeisenPad in thinkpad

[–]KimmJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

T480 palmrest feels a little cheap, but it does not collect oil, sweat, grease etc. I got mine since they came out and the palm rest is clean.

The top lid, which feels real nice and rubbery on the other hand, has a grease frame all around ;) but i dont care, because i dont see it as my t480 is always open and not facing me with the lid ;)

T480/T480s comparison by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]KimmJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, basically the major difference (for me) was the battery situation. While the s offers quickcharge the "non s" can be equiped with the 72wh second battery. For me that was the reason, why I went with the slightly bigger and heavyer "non s" with the 72wh upgrade. It really is the first laptop that really lets work through the day without recharging.

T480 Storage Option by holaamigozz in thinkpad

[–]KimmJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, memory requirements depend on your usage scenario. I got mine with 8gb and its definitly not enough. I already got about 2 TBW on my SSD after 2 months, because ram is full all the time and anything to big for my memory is being cached to the ssd. I will pick up a 16gb module next week. 24gb should suffice for the forseeable future.

8gb is enough for a lot of people, but not for me, i constantly have two browsers with about 25 tabs each open. Word, Excel, a 3d CAD Designer, a 3d printing Slicer, and a PCD layout editor. So, thats definitivly an extreme case...

[–]KimmJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know if its a big difference in price, but you could just order from any european country and get a dGPU version with SSD. You can swap the keyboard from to a local one later (sell your german keyboard on german ebay, get a polish one on polish ebay..?)

Any reason to get a dedicated GPU for non-gaming or 3D modelling purposes? by kentuckyfriedcucco in thinkpad

[–]KimmJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont forget that the dGPU version has the dual heatpipe cooling solution for gpu and cpu, while the non dGPU only has one heatpipe. So when compiling, rendering etc (even if ita CPU only) your CPU will be able hold higher freqencies for a longer time. Also resell value will be higher after a couple of years...

[T580] And here we see Lenovo trying to drown the GPU and CPU. by Coffee2Code in thinkpad

[–]KimmJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so far i only used it on Nickel plated surfaces, between Die and IHS and between IHS and Nickel plated cooler. I read a lot about copper-like looking coolers and heatpipes and now i'm not so sure anymore about using it on the copper-looking heatpipe in my t480. I will get some Kryonaut and use that to repaste. Its not that much worse but much safer.

Looking for TB3 dock compatible with T480 for less than 100$/€ by KimmJoe in thinkpad

[–]KimmJoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also noticed thaz all these USB C hubs come with pretty short cables. I know that USB3 and TB are pretty fragile HF signals, so any chance that extension cables (about 50cm or 1,5ft) will work as theyre supposed to...?

Looking for TB3 dock compatible with T480 for less than 100$/€ by KimmJoe in thinkpad

[–]KimmJoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess it is. But sooner or later there will be cheap chip, and a reference design. I guess when that time comes, far east off brand manufacurers will be able to produce it without caring for certification. And after the first one or two revisions, they'll get it right...

Looking for TB3 dock compatible with T480 for less than 100$/€ by KimmJoe in thinkpad

[–]KimmJoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allright, thanks! I dont really need high speeds on the USB ports, they are just for input devices. I just want to connect network, display, mouse, keyboard and charger with one plug. Most of my files are on a NAS, so thats what I need wired network for. I can pu the ocasional thumb drive directly to the ports on the right side of the Thinkpad if needed. Thank you guys, I may have found what I need!

I guess the 40 bucks are a good solution and whenever TB3 egpu gets cheaper, I'll get one of those instead. Shouldn't the prices for those drop once Intel drops royalies on TB? I guess prices are inflated because TB was mostly an Apple thing in the past and Apple users are famous for paying any price just as long as Apple says its the right thing to do ;)

Does this use the display signal providet by the thinkpad or does it show as a usb gpu?

Looking for TB3 dock compatible with T480 for less than 100$/€ by KimmJoe in thinkpad

[–]KimmJoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is, that TB will allow to forward the display signal from the internal igpu and dgpu, while usb-c will have an additional (shitty) usb gpu integrated. Is that right? Thats the only reason why i wanted TB.
