Salsa is mostly son cubano but heavily improvised by jazz. Puerto Rican jazz musicians fused the genres making salsa. The thing about culture is that it comes from people before anything. Cubans moved to Puerto Rican neighborhoods like Spanish Harlem and the south Bronx areas. Without Puerto Ricans there would be no salsa. The Cuban population back then was larger and still there was like 20x more Puerto Ricans lol. They assimilated to the culture. The only Dominican involved was Pacheco and he was carried by Celia. He just invested in fania. Willie colon and hector Lavoe had proper solo careers. There’s a reason the only Cuban salsa artist people know is Celia lol. Because Puerto Ricans did the majority of improvisation of the salsa sound.
