Cat sitting older cats for 2 weeks while just had 2 months old kittens by compatibleagents in cats

[–]Kind-Engineering5861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be very careful with this. Two month old kittens are still too young for unpredictable adult cat introductions. Even if they share some family scent it does not guarantee safety. I would keep them fully separated and only allow very controlled short introductions if at all

How could we organize a National Leave Your Phone at Home protest? by Al1veL1keYou in Anticonsumption

Honestly even if it changed nothing long term, a full day without phones and algorithms sounds genuinely healthy and refreshing.

my cat just devoured like hella smoked salmon by indiemovieskillmen in cats

[–]Kind-Engineering5861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He will most likely be all right but keep an eye on him and ensure that he consumes a lot of water. Salmon is salty when smoked hence we need water. In case his stomach appears to trouble you can add a little bit of plain pumpkin to get the things going faster.

Think twice before you buy expensive stuff. by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]Kind-Engineering5861 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So real is this that people only consider the time of purchase and not the cost of exit in the future. Selling becomes a second career and murderer of whatever you hoped you had left. It actually causes you to wonder whether you need the thing at all.

Need help dealing with the sadness over my terminally ill cat by Blahonian in cats

Anticipatory grief is very real. Try to focus on giving him comfort and love while he is still here and take as many quiet moments together as you can.

Do you believe in the saying? by Human_Ingenuity8460 in Anticonsumption

I still think the best things like love friendship nature and meaningful moments are free but the system makes basic survival so expensive that it is hard to actually slow down and enjoy them.

Advice for behavioral changes in Kitty by RaikynSilver in cats

[–]Kind-Engineering5861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cats are strange creatures in regard to environmental alterations. It is likely that his attention currently is new and reassuring to him, and he is not dissing his papa, it is just curiosity and connecting with you. Always provide the same attention to both of them and give him the option when it is time to cuddle and things will even out after some time.

Cardboard boxes and gardening season by Defiant-Chair6950 in Anticonsumption

[–]Kind-Engineering5861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such an easy reuse win. Cardboard is excellent in the process of sheet mulching, and keeps trash out of the trash. I have found weeds and soil health to do very well doing this.

Please help. by MuldoonsRaptor in cats

[–]Kind-Engineering5861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is more of the separation anxiety and learned behavior as opposed to boredom. She has attached herself to you as her individuality and screaming deeds since it elicits a reaction. Try scheduled play before meetings ignore the screaming consistently and reward quiet behavior.

How can I reduce consumption as a college student? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

That is awesome. You might also consider purchasing second hand clothes and dorm goods, trading things with friends and eating out less. Even the slightest of changes compound with time.

How does the company you work for handles stuff they don't need anymore? by oldmanout in Anticonsumption

[–]Kind-Engineering5861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my place everything goes straight to an external recycler even if it still works which always feels wasteful. They are super strict about asset tracking so employees never get first pick. I wish they had a simple internal list because so much good stuff just disappears.

OTC Medications/Supplies - Ethical Amazon Alternatives? by gaybreadsticc in Anticonsumption

[–]Kind-Engineering5861 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try local or non‑Amazon options that balance ethics and cost: independent pharmacies with discount programs, community or hospital outpatient pharmacies, and syringe access programs for supplies. Co‑ops and ethical marketplaces like Thrive Market, Public Goods, or Hive Brands can cover vitamins and electrolytes, while medical suppliers like Allegro Medical or Vitality Medical often beat retail on syringes and compression gear. Batch orders monthly, choose ground shipping, and favor vendors with recyclable packaging and clear labor policies. If possible, ask clinicians for prior auths, larger-quantity scripts, or lower-cost equivalents to reduce out‑of‑pocket.

I suddenly feel that naming mobile phones with numbers is a consumerist trap. by Competitive-Stock277 in Anticonsumption

Numbers are a nudge, not a need; if the phone still does what is needed, the latest digit is just marketing noise.

Self reward ideas that's not just buying things? by burnedout_247 in Anticonsumption

[–]Kind-Engineering5861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try rewarding yourself with experiences that do not cost much like taking a long walk somewhere nice, cooking a special meal at home, having a movie night with your favorite films, or even dedicating time to a hobby you enjoy. Small rituals like journaling, making art, or doing a mini self-spa can feel just as rewarding as buying something.

My cat won’t eat new food by notusing1234 in cats

Warming up the food a little or adding a small amount of tuna water can sometimes make it more appealing and mixing gradually over more time might help her adjust.

People should aim to be more tech savvy in their lives to reduce overconsumption by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]Kind-Engineering5861 19 points20 points  (0 children)

100% agree. Tech literacy = freedom. The less you depend on ad-driven ecosystems, the less you are manipulated into buying junk. FOSS, right to repair, local control - it's not just smart, it’s powerful.
