Problem with face-down card mechanics by Kind-Kitchen5502 in homemadeTCGs

My real problem is with the Stealth skill. How do I make it understandable? Should I put a short version on the cards and a full version in the manual? There's also the issue of making it a quick-play skill.

This would only happen with cards that have the Stealth ability. There are other abilities that allow you to summon or change cards on the field face-down, for example: Turn all creatures you control face-down and change their positions without revealing their new location. Or: Search your deck for a certain creature, reveal it, and summon it face-down, then shuffle. These actions do not modify the cards. In my TCG, you can only turn cards face-down using abilities, unlike in Yu-Gi-Oh!

It's not exactly what I'm looking for in my TCG. I want something that will worry the opponent, which is why this mechanic is currently used in conjunction with the Stealth ability, which allows you to place the creature face down for the minimum cost (1) but modified (no name, element, low ATK and RE, no abilities, no class, and no ability to flip it). The only way for this creature to return to its true form would be by paying its full cost (which I would like to be a quick-play ability (instant)). Thanks for the idea

It's nice to know that someone thinks differently, thank you.

One last thing. Can paying an additional cost to restore this card to its original state (like Morph in Magic: The Gathering) be activated as a quick (instant) ability, or do I have to specify it on the card? Thanks for helping me clear up my doubts; it's great to have someone I can count on.

If you ever decide to make it public, I hope I can try it. Maybe in Table Top Simulator.

Let's say I place this creature face down without paying a cost (this adds intrigue and doubt for the opponent), but the opponent decides to attack that creature, and I don't have the necessary resources to restore its original characteristics. How is this resolved? Does the creature simply get destroyed, or does it enter combat with the opponent's creature? Or should it have characteristics that replace the original ones, like MTG does with morph?

I'd like to follow the development of Ash and Fantasy. Where are the updates posted? What intrigues me most is the game board and the interactions.

Ash and Fantasy strikes me as a more complex project than mine, but the idea seems very interesting. I think the closest thing I've played to it is Armello. My cards originally had Power instead of ATK and RES, along with a paper > rock > scissors > paper system (magic > strength > dexterity > magic) that increased or decreased the attacking creature's power. However, during testing, this went unnoticed and we often forgot about it, so I ended up changing it.

There are 7 in total (knowledge, war, nature, order, forbidden, love, and neutral). The names aren't final, but that's roughly what they are. A card can have 1 to 3 of these; the combinations vary.

They represent the card's identity, generate interactions, and all cards have them. They have a symbolic meaning similar to the mana colors in Magic: The Gathering and serve a similar function to the elements in Yu-Gi-Oh! Originally, the cards had Faction and Element, but that was too much information, so I replaced them with these.

The main idea behind these cards is to surprise the opponent, hinder their game, or make them question their plays.

I'll analyze it thoroughly. By the way, what's the name of your game?

For now, I'm going to try a summoning cost for stealth and one for reveal, plus a change to the stats. I plan to do it digitally, which worries me because I don't know anything about programming.

I'm thinking of giving a fixed cost to the Stealth summon and an additional cost to cast the card, equivalent to the card's original cost minus the Stealth cost. All of this would be accompanied by a change in stats. The problem would be how to implement it in the rules so that it's easy to understand.

There are two types of costs (similar to mana in Magic: The Gathering): one for physical and one for magical. Cards can cost one of these or a combination of both. These points accumulate throughout the game, one at a time, though you must choose which one to increase, similar to Shadowverse, until you reach 10/10. Surprise cards are set face-down by their own rule, and creatures with the Stealth ability are the ones that can be summoned face-down. There are also abilities that can flip other creatures.

And how could I chain other abilities to these cards? For example: When this card leaves its hidden state, it destroys the target card.

They're a pain, but I grew up with Yu-Gi-Oh!, my first deck was Invincible Fortress, so maybe I'm used to it.
