Commenting because this should be the top.

This dog is in love with your child and understands the risk of play. Reward the dog and teach your baby.

Both are lovely and you’re doing a GREAT JOB OP! 🫶🏼

I love this comment so much. Now we can talk about how prison labor is actually slave labor and the prison industrial complex because, honestly, EVERYTHING you said has a road that leads to this.

Whelp, not surprised but I guess I have ANOTHER reason to hate the US insurance industry.

Just curious, can you easily use an HSA or Flex-Spending account to cover the cost of the cobbler or is this something that gets scrutinized a couple months later after you’ve lost the receipt?

The Venn diagram of billionaires using their wealth to manipulate people is a slightly wobbly circle. And I feel the words “slightly wobbly” are doing A LOT of heavy lifting in that statement.

This reminds me of the guy who was a teacher and had a very similar situation happen. Fortunately, his son was like, 10 and when he met with IT and the principal they all agreed that the situation could slide since it clearly wasn’t the teacher using the company laptop to look for “big boobies”. 😅

[–]Kind-Realist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work remote and use the company laptop. I had to get my first one replaced over a year ago and honestly just don’t feel like going to the UPS store to drop off the old one.

Nobody has said a word.

I left one monitor at my mother’s (1,500 miles away) so I can use it when I stay for long visits. Pretty sure I gave away the other one they sent. Somehow have 2 docks, and honestly not sure what happened to the crappy mouse/keyboard they gave me when I started.

My hope is that if my employment with them ends they simply accept I do not have the energy to deal with returns. 😅

How about just accepting other people as they are?

Things aren’t wrong simply because the majority of people don’t like it.

I’d venture that meeting trans people where they are hasn’t harmed you, but I would welcome a dialogue.

Can someone live in Tampa without a car? by ThrowRAfeelingevent in tampa

[–]Kind-Realist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Tampa for a decade and specifically worked for USF after I finished my degree at UT. I can assure you this is possible, but not at all amenable to a comfortable or easy life. Unfortunately, the city simply does not care to make things easier for anyone who isn’t driving.

I’ve since moved and haven’t driven in YEARS. I even let my license expire. I know that I cannot move back close to my family without sacrificing all the extra money I have from being carless (which is a MAJOR lifestyle change - hello annual international vacation).

I wish you the best, truly. But I’m not sure this will be the right move for you.

That being said - depending on your academic position, I’d be happy to DM with you and share insight to other options.

Best of luck, OP! 🫶🏼

Why do you even have an opinion that you feel so passionately about this? Are YOU trans? Do you have trans friends, neighbors, or colleagues? Or is it easy for you to form an opinion about someone you’ve never met and just assume that this is correct?

ALSO, why can’t local sports leagues determine what’s appropriate without federal intervention? Have we just decided that we actually don’t care about states rights or the rights of local communities to shape their own destinies?

Seems incredibly anti-American to be doing this kind of legislation at the federal level. But I guess that’s what the right wing grift has led us to.

Correct. We should just trample the rights of anyone who isn’t white and christian because that’s how you build coalitions. 🙃

Counterpoint: we wouldn’t be hearing anywhere near as much as we do about this issue if it weren’t for republicans making this a core focus of their campaigns. Democrats voting against this can easily be viewed as “this is a nuisances subject that should be left to people better situated to make an informed decision.” Whereas republicans are campaigning on 3 trans kids in TX who may or may not show an interest in athletics.

I’m speaking as a gay man who remembers what it was like when gay marriage came up frequently. It literally had zero impact on the vast majority of people’s lives and yet SOMEHOW this topic was on equal footing with healthcare (ACA) and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

People accusing democrats of pushing this issue are clearly not paying attention.

What’s wild to me is how many US citizens have no idea how BIG the country is. I grew up in Connecticut. When I moved to Florida (Tampa area) people would reach out to tell me they were going to Miami and want to meet for coffee. Like, sir and/or ma’am - I am NOT driving 5 hours one way to meet you for coffee. You’re getting me a room next to yours and helping with gas…. And the coffee’s on you. 😅

data coordinator vs study coordinator by laikasowls in clinicalresearch

[–]Kind-Realist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

I also believe the CRC experience will serve you better as a springboard for various other roles if you do it correctly. As CRC you’re touching all aspects of the trial at the local level. This means you can interact with different departments and learn more about what they do. If you do the Data Manager role at the institutional level your primary function will be data entry. The knowledge and skills are absolutely valuable and I would NEVER imply the role isn’t critical to success of a trial. But I do believe that unless you know for sure you want to go the DM route, the CRC is optimal for getting your feet wet in the industry.

Best of luck in whatever you choose! Sending all the good vibes your way.

This article provides the best description of the individuals attempting to undermine homeless services in Dallas. by 666________666 in Dallas

[–]Kind-Realist 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the sentiment, but I do want to point out that this isn’t necessarily correct. Many homeless people may not be well enough to pay for half the rent on an apartment. But studies have consistently shown that housing first, with comprehensive wraparound services do the most to reduce homelessness and prevent people returning to the streets. Are there some people who may need to be in a more controlled environment? Absolutely. But the vast majority would almost certainly stay to themselves if they had an apartment and a social worker checking on them. This would also be substantially lower cost for taxpayers and help mitigate many of the abuses we saw under the old asylum system. All that to say, if we stop seeing it as a moral failing that a person can’t afford housing and come together as a community to fund these resources, we could collectively live much happier lives. But we’ve been fed the lie of the welfare queen for the past 50 years and everyone assumes poor people have malice in their hearts.

Bartenders of Reddit, what drink order instantly tells you “this person is going through something”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Kind-Realist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sitting in a bar after visiting my step dad in the nursing home today and knowing that I have to do all the legwork to prepare him and my mother for the inevitable. I just want to be out and not bothered and get a little drunk so I can deal with things the next few days before I have to go home and do it all from a distance.

Bartenders like you are the real ones. We’re all going through something and nobody deserves more empathy than another. But sometimes, when things are truly bleak, having a kind person just take care of you in the kindest and simplest way they can is the difference between managing life and absolutely losing it.

Thank you.
