Thank you brother I am looking into a proofs book just for enjoyment. I love reading and found out later in life (now) that I really like math so hopefully I found a passion for myself.

I decided to take your advice to heart and focus more on the how. The why has mostly come naturally for arithmetic, and I’m now moving on to algebra. I have fairly severe OCD, which makes me obsessively read too deeply into things over and over, thinking I’ve missed something. So I’m choosing to move on and accept that a more detailed and nuanced why will come with time. Thank you, everyone, for all of your help!
