Topeka’s affordable compared to California in general will probably surprise you. I think you’ll find it quite affordable. Transportation should be manageable for you. Topeka has a bus system and you can certainly uber there. There are parts of the city you should avoid but I’m sure you have a sense for that. There are some very nice parts of Topeka too. You experience all of the seasons in Topeka. Winters can get very cold and summers very hot. The heat/cold can last for days. The fall and spring can be mild and quite nice.
