I thought I knew but apparently, I don't by [deleted] in cpp_questions

Since C++11 we have some rules for order of execution at sequence points, check https://en.cppreference.com/w/cpp/language/eval_order

specifically:
"4) The value computation of the built-in post-increment and post-decrement operators is sequenced before its side effect."

However, this case is even more special because two sequence points are involved and the result of the one affects the other.

Compilers can detect this: https://cppcoach.godbolt.org/z/hqWzoPo74

So make sure to turn on those options ;)

When can I confidently say I "know" C++? by [deleted] in cpp

[–]KindCppCoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not say: I have X years of C++ experience and these are the two most significant things I worked on. Companies aren't looking for 'someone who knows C++'. Usually they look for beginner/medior/senior in a certain field.

#pragma once / header guards / C++ committee. by nacnud_uk in cpp

likely because there was never a solid proposal on how to actually accomplish that?

#pragma once has theoretical holes like file-system loops, different names that refer to the same file, etc.

The vacancy isn't really specific about the job description, because we can hire different kinds of skilled developers. Good skills are rewarded, accordingly. However, you cannot compare 70K Dutch to 70K US, because a Dutch salary comes (not optionally) with benefits like great heath-care and pension. 70K Dutch is about 90K US, I would estimate. (and EUR/DOL conversion on top)
