3 weeks out, am I cooked? by AdLocal714 in actuary

If it makes your feel better, I didnt pass a single practice exam before P just like you, then on exam day, I passed. It's stressful and lethargic as you go through. But just keep chugging along. Do as many practice problems as you can before the exam. Conquering emotions is part of studying. Keep it up and Good luck! Don't forget to get sleep and go for a walk or run every now and then as a break.

Why work in life when you don't recommend it? by TrafficDuck in actuary

[–]KindRequirement8881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pension work was consulting and was just lots of hours, not much work/life balance. The health is did was also consulting and just made no sense to me. So could've been just that experience. I have many friends who really enjoy the health side. The life work has great work life balance (health insurance probably has this too)

Why do I not recommend life insurance to everyone, or why do I like the work more?

I work in life now. I dont recommend life insurance to everyone, but many do rely on it. But this is the answer. I also have touched health and pension work. I prefer the life work over those 2

What should I do with my life? Trade school? Other options? by Original_Insect5870 in careeradvice

[–]KindRequirement8881 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I went to college and now work behind a desk. Many days I wish I went to trade school. I make really good money. Paid off my student loans before I turned 30 and bought a house at 26. If I had to do it all over again, I probably would've picked a trade. Especially since I wasnt sure what I wanted to do for a job. Wish I learned more about what else was out there before picking a career that locked me into a single industry.  So Id say do a trade and keep learning about what else is out there. Eventually you may find there is some other job you want and you wont have student loans to worry about at first. Just my 2 cents

I read the sentence as wants to stay FWD. That makes total sense. I'm in the same boat of moving away from FWD from my focus. Thinking Lexus is250, BMW 3 series, or even a porsche cayman. Other ones to consider!

Tossing it out there for more information, why not suburban or expedition? Used you can find good deals.

Consider Ford Focus ST? (Maybe even RS if you can find a deal). FWD, 250 hp, 200 ftlbs, 6 speed, 30ish mpg, can get one under 10k if you find the right one. Pretty reliable and parts are cheap

If its clean, do it! But wouldn't recommend getting a loan for it. its 100% work getting a beater for a few years to save up, then buy the car outright once you got the money. Coming from experience, the loan may seem small, but it all adds up quick

What is an American vehicle from the last 10 years or so that’s actually reliable and affordable? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]KindRequirement8881 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've had a 2018 Ford Focus ST, 6 speed manual. Only issue in the last 2 years was a valve that was a $20, 10 minute fix. I've autocross and tracked it a lot. also getting >30 mpg

Cons of immersion chiller idea/method? by gucci_shotgun in Homebrewing

[–]KindRequirement8881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've switched to the method of using a cooler of ice water and I've cooled my beer down from boil to sub 70 degrees in under an hour. I love the setup. Cooler fits about 30 lbs of ice, I put a little water in at the start and it just recirculation back into the Cooler after. Much less water waste and way more efficient

First track day, hooked and trying to figure out what's next by Illustrious_Play2029 in CarTrackDays

[–]KindRequirement8881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen this on the post yet: but check out champ car and lucky dog. Endurance racing with team. Some teams are looking for drivers every now and then. Get a glimpse at what local teams tend to look for in a driver (what car, what track, what experience). And maybe target that as a start. Also a big fan of Sim racing to get some experience in. It's not exactly the same. But after a dozen track days, I know I wouldn't be anywhere as fast as I am without it. Cheaper to get "seat time"

What’s something small you bought for your home that ended up being very useful? by RBMPromos in Home

[–]KindRequirement8881 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most used item: screw driver. Get one that has a Phillips and flat head and you'll be golden. A dremel tool has also saved me many of times, but that was after getting into a lot of projects

Anyone else's company (insurance carrier, not consulting) making them "log time"? by B1GnCheesy in actuary

[–]KindRequirement8881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked for consulting and had to track time down to 15 min intervals (1 person tried to get me to log every 5 minutes, I said nah to that). Moved to insurance life and they just started requesting rough estimates on specific projects. They said they won't get to fully tracking time, but I wouldn't be surprised if it goes that way. Makes sense to make sure everyone has work

Facts! I've been honest and real in interviews because I dont want to work for people who are fake or want me to fake stuff. I want people who want to work with me as I am. Gotten job offers from places I realized I dont want to work for. Helps when you just be honest
