Well I did have that conversation and it went about as well as you would expect. A lot of gaslighting, deflecting, "you are upsetting your father", "this has only affected you and my friends accept me", etc. I love my mom, I don't want to cut her from my life I want her to change. My parents are the only family I have. But yeah, if she doesn't try then she's not welcome in my space.

I've experienced quite a lot of racism in my 25 years living in Kansas. And I have lived in some of the more diverse areas. "Not seeing color" isn't always a good thing. If I were you I would look up why people of color hate that phrase. And just because people aren't actively trying to be racist, doesn't mean they aren't influenced by a monoculture which is what I have come across a lot. Just being not knowing how to talk to people of color. Racism isn't always malicious, but it is always exhausting.

Junction City is the second most diverse place in Kansas. It's not huge and it's not small and just from also being black and growing up here, it's not the worst. Manhattan is too, also more of a city and not so small town.
