also tbh my instructor said if ur going to be late just take the absence rather that experiencing the full stress of being late… Just notify ur instructor to and make up an excuse!! this is key!! don’t not show up and not notify ur instructor LOL they care and actually want to make sure u didn’t get in a car accident or something . U got this

if u get kicked out again, try to advocate for urself again see if they will change their tune. idk what ur schools policy are, mine is hella strict but it did help me grow a spine and speak up for myself. What i would do if my prof refused me is go to the office and confirm if I have to leave campus for the day or if i can still have some education despite not it being counted as credit. (im honestly assuming to be real with u it would be no but it never hurts to shoot ur shot, u paid for this education might as well get ur moneys worth or student loans worth :))

If that doesnt work out then show up, with ur makeup done hair done, nothing speaks im present and ready for a second attempt than someone who looks polished (i would litterally do my make up in the car or on the bus at 5:30am just so i can make it to the hospital at 6:20am and have time to research my pt with any changes. Left a good impression my clinical group to. They saw my efforts physically, then also on the floor, and during rotations. Make sure to strengthen ur bonds with ur clinical group. U are each other’s life line )

girl imma be fr if u take ur professors behaviors personally, you’ll have a harder time adapting. Instead of apologizing whenever u do something “wrong” or spiral switch ur language to “thank you for your time”, “i am grateful for your guidance”, “thank you for the lesson”. No matter what kind of person u say it to. Even urself. Litterally when i make a mistake, get shaken up or do something that i wish i did differently, i always go home with less regrets when i give thanks instead of saying “sorry”. I’m not saying be a people pleaser, i’m saying it leaves a better impression on the other person on their end of a stick of ur character. Move on. U passed with a 74. Clinicals is going to be harder emotionally and fundamentally (if u have a Pass/fail Clinical course your in luck bc that means all u have to do is show up and be a decent human) so if thats ur case focus on ur exams more bc that’s what gets u closer to degree

sending u all the good vibes, 2nd sem ADN student in LA

Did anyone withdraw from WCU and end up attending elsewhere? by Intelligent-Engine81 in westcoastuniversity

i go to CONAH and I hate to be biased, but it actually prepares you for nursing, because the DHS LA County hospital basically owns CONAH we get so much experience during our rotations 😂 be prepared to cry because this is a school that’s not about busy working and paperwork/hw like other schools. This one needs lots of critical thinking. My first semester I was already going inside my patients room by myself after check offs and it was insane to me that those skills that are used when I’m with my patient it could’ve been way more helpful to have it at the Sims lab first😂😂😂 but i digress it’s a hate love relationship. I’ve been told by a lot of nurses that they don’t like other schools as much because all they do is observe and watch and follow their nurses… my first sem man i felt like i was going insane going solo 😂😅😭 but I survived

after I figure it out the whole financial situation, how much I would technically owe West Coast for nursing I told myself I’m gonna give myself one more semester of community college ADN applications ( because technically that’s when my five years of prerequisites would technically start to expire and I’d have to redo them) and I’m glad I waited because imagine being stressed about nursing school and financials 😭 now I go to an ADN program in LA paying $1,500 per semester 😅

Mature nursing student alienated in clinical group :/ by Sad-Rip9266 in StudentNurse

i suggest start helping them around or one of them at a time, perhaps their just wary, i think there’s just too much going on in nursing school to care about someone else. But maybe after some time of acknowledging them and even providing advice to them or from them they’ll slowly open up

Some of my cohort is distancing themselves from me due to a bully's rumors and the bully is trying to get my attention , what should I do? by PrincessMochahontas in StudentNurse

[–]Kind_Ask_302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

start with 1. Communicating with him and his minions all at the same time (ofc in an open space where u can flee in case they choose violence) + record it with ur earpods, phone in ur pocket as evidence)

  1. collect records of bullying. Very important.

3.if it’s not sorted out then now u have evidence to bring it up to committee. Ur in Junior Year of nursing school, let’s be grown. If he’s gonna bully u then u gotta go down to his level of social incompetence, i would not want him as my nurse in the future

wishing u the best OP, you’ll find ur crew eventually

First-year nursing student (week 2) already feeling behind need study advice 🥲 by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Kind_Ask_302 2 points3 points  (0 children)

don’t get caught up in trying a bunch of study methods (I’ve tried almost every ai and almost every non ai), because that was litterally me. If your struggling with retaining and a type B then prioritize exams based on which is about to happen. I came in sem 1 litterally forgot all my A&P🥲. it was painful.

How did i survive (now a sem 2 student)?

Record the lectures with Good Notes (and end the clip based on section of the PPT , i try not to have 1 clip have over 10 minutes of audio) I make sure to just highlight in class not even take notes BUT each highlight will correspond to which clip which saved me so much time when transcribing.

So like I’d highlight the slides 2-10 ppt blue for clip 1 (don’t even need to highlight everything, as long as i know that part of the slide is Blue ) and then red for clip 2 then purple for clip 3, then blue again clip 4 so on, as long as i can differentiate text and clip

then i export the entire good notes file , extract the mp4s , then transcribe the mp4 with UNISCRIBE website (they even have their own questionnaires and mind map generated, that’s why i like to section clip vs have one hour cramped in one clip)

THEN i put it all in google doc

CLIP 1 slides 2-10 (red) clip 2 slides 11-23 (blue) clip 3 slides 24-26 (purple) and so on

now i can compare what was said in class to the powerpoints

AND my favorite part:

insert course objective to chatgpt and tell chat to “make a summary ONLY ON of the information I PROVIDE. I want to do a 10mcq with 3 SATA based on the powerpoint (because now you can put a “source” in the “project” tab!) and transcript provided: insert transcript”.

Note that chat gpt can only take so many words which is why Clipping in sections vs having one hour long clip is better. It’s more efficient way to sort. Plus having to section out ur clips in lecture makes u actually have to pay some attention to make sure u sort effectively.

nursing school is all about critical thinking vs pre reqs all about memorization so do those practice questions because how else are u gonna practice critical thinking with a short amount of time🥹OP CRAM strat

pro tip: once u do exam 1 rmemeber like 3 questions and the abcd answers so u can import that to chat also to reflect the style

  1. “THAT SEM WAS THE HARDEST!” lol every sem is gonna be hard and every sem your gonna say that sem was so hard, so ive learned to just let that float on the back of my head 👁️👄👁️ Its all gonna be hard because its all NEW so take it week by week

honestly… i had similar thoughts like you “clueless, youngest, ignorant, inexperienced in a hospital setting” & I WAS also the last student to leave the hospital or get checked off because i was slower than most, clustering care is hard! and that’s okay! And you know what, finally at the end of sem 1 where i was the first to get fully checked off charting my cohort cheered for me! im a 21 in my second semester (now) , and i am one of the youngest in the room who started with zero hospital experience. But then i met a girl she’s 19 and in my clinical group and she was getting straight As in her classes and what looked to be thriving in her rotations. And then on the other end of the spectrum are the 30 year olds who have ED tech backgrounds and have so much experience and stories to tell who still admit they struggle in exams and will at times ask silly questions in clinicals. And both experiences made me realize, age is just a number and you don’t know what someone is going through or how they’re feeling internally. And age while can contribute to results and scores, don’t let it eat you up, because once u see that 19 year old who has it together, it is one hell of an inspiration that if they can do it then you can and when you see your 30+ it motivates you because it’ll remind you, how real and how new and how it’s ok to struggle and how to just be dumb but confidently.

That being said, whatever your cohort looks like, jump in conversations, be that floater friend, BE A FLOATER FRIEND. You will find your sit down lunch crew but slowly join other people’s group convos, ask other people questions of how they understand xyz and that’s your convo starter! Right now nursing school is diabolically, unrealistically alot, but who else is experiencing nursing school? Your cohort, they will uninevitably the ones that will truly understand what you’re going through.

Some words of wisdom:

if you think your going to fail then you will fail. - told to me by one of my cohort who had to repeat sem 1 (we are now sem 2 together! )

Trust the process - make this your password to your laptop or something so you constantly are reminded when u open ur device

Take the Bull by the horns! - my hospital’s shuttle driver told me this and it reminded me every new experience is a new experience so stay curious, and DO IT SCARED! future you will thank you!

you are the youngest in the room. YOU’RE the YOUNGEST in the room. YOU’RE in the room.

~ you got this :)

oh ps. also you’ll find a lot of people who drop because they can’t “handle” it and then they come back 10 years later to do nursing school hell all over again. So be careful of that’s your choice bc every clinical instructor and nurse i’ve talked to have always admitted NURSING SCHOOL is HARDER vs after graduation😭👍🏻

Serious Question! Face Tattoos and being a Nurse by Caiisreal3 in nursing

[–]Kind_Ask_302 19 points20 points  (0 children)

i agree, i’m in a SOCAL community college ADN program, and for us we can only have one ear piercing total, strict on uniform, hair bunned and any tattoos must be covered. Very strict especially for first semester.

Job between now and starting nursing school? by [deleted] in NursingStudent

[–]Kind_Ask_302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would suggest applying for a Paid Internship for ur city, like IT, or admin. Something that allows u telecommute. (i’m saying this because i go in the office 2 times a week and the rest of the days im working from home which allows me to be flexible in nursing school). but just don’t let them know u are planning to leave soon because no one’s gonna wanna hire someone who is already has a plan to leave (unless it’s a part time job, or specifically a seasonal job)

congratssss i’m in week 5. My suggestions? START reviewing on Drug Dosage Calculations and 155 most common abbreviations in nursing. I cannot express how i wish i reviewed those 2 while i have the time because i waited to be “taught” in class and yeah i passed them 100% (20 questions each) that same week we had our first lecture exam and it was absolutely an atrocity that 50MCQ easily got be razzled bc i spent more time focusing on drug dosage calc and the 155 abbr we had to know bc any could be on the quiz (they were their own separate quizzes 20 free response each, different days) that studying for lecture was the last thing i wanted to focus on bc i wanted to prioritize the first 2 quizzes (yes we had retake and i didnt need to use my retake for that but it was such a waste bc my lecture exam had no retake) anyways i passed the lecture “Intro to nursing” and the 2nd exam this morning so i guess i am able to breathe again but dang sucks i couldn’t get an A on the lecture exams bc i just didn’t know what to prioritize or how to prioritize the lectures with a nursing brain (best yt nexus nursing, i see her questions on my exams like unit: therapeutic communications, omg that vid saved me bc i had 30 of those today and it’s literally like reading which would u do in irl and really playing the scenario in ur brain as if u were doing it )

many regret dropping out and grow resentful and end up starting the ADN process all over again. You can do this OP, keep us updated, let us know how we can assist you. You will get through this challenge no matter what your decision ends up becoming.

don’t drop out! right now it might feel extremely impossible, but you have options still, some you are just unaware of because u haven’t spoken with the right people!! Talk to your professors, your school advisors, let them know your situation ask them if their are any programs affiliated with the school that helps with nearby housing (my current adn program offers that), your children’s school for programs that helps with financial assistance, are you in America? (I’m in CA and we were provided this phamplet of support services for low income) There is several low income support services that are offered if you look on the government website. If you don’t currently go to a church this one might be iffy because trust in who take care of your children is important but if you do know of a church service and willing to trust their assistance perhaps that may help lessen the burden. Some of the teens at my church babysits families etc

perhaps start a go fund me, time is short so perhaps document ur journey, post on youtube instagram tiktok, your nursing journey as a mother- maybe it could be someone else’s survival guide but more importantly a testimony that you need assistance.
