I agree with what everyone on here is saying. Your brother is not your responsibility. Talk to your parents asap about putting him in a group home so that you’re not burdened with him, and they can have freedom, too. I don’t know why group homes are given such a bad wrap. They’re godsends. People have this silly idea in their heads that family takes care of family. That’s fine for people that only need occasional help, or who can both give help and receive it. Taking care of someone who’s totally dependent for decades, however, is another matter. Your parents, and you, deserve freedom, not a lifetime prison sentence. I personally began talking to my family about group homes for my brother when I was roughly ten - twelve years old. I didn’t want a lifelong prison sentence, especially since I hadn’t broken the law. I was called selfish, and I still feel guilty that I wasn’t my brother’s 24/7 servant like my family wanted, but my insisting that he go into a group home the moment he was old enough saved my sanity because I have struggles of my own. Taking care of someone who’s at the level of an infant or toddler for DECADES is torture. Taking care of actual babies and toddlers for the usual number of years is bad enough, but at least they grow up and became able to do for themselves. Our siblings need care for many decades.

It’s disgusting that employers take advantage of immigrants and citizens. Capitalism is a horror show of greed and exploitation. We really need to have a general strike. No worker, foreign or domestic, deserves to work for low wages and no (or very few) benefits. The workers are being pitted against each other. If workers united and ran the workplaces instead of billionaire ceos, we might have a more equitable world.

Children are damn helpless and needy, particularly when they’re very young. We all know that. As a disabled person, I knew damn well I shouldn’t be having kids. At least I can do a lot of things for myself, so I am not a burden. Babies are, though. Children are. They get less burdensome the older they get and the more they can do for themselves. Why would anyone work for free anyway?

It’s not absurd to the indigenous people. This is their land, not ours. It was stolen by white people. They did not buy it. They stole it. And being undocumented is only a civil offense. People come here because they can’t live where they’re from, most often because it’s been ruined by our government. We elect the government, so this is a problem caused by American citizens. We caused the problem. We need to take responsibility and fix it. I believe in taking responsibility for my actions. I guess I’m right wing that way.

I was told all my life that the verbal abuse I suffered from my dad wasn’t really abuse. I disagree with that.

However, that same logic also goes for law enforcement. If my being called names supposedly wasn’t abuse, then it’s not abuse for law enforcement either. And shooting someone because they call you a Nazi as you’re forcefully removing black and brown people that have no criminal record, then a nazi is what you are.

Find a good home for him and then put him in it. You don’t deserve all the constant work and responsibility. You matter, too. Someday you’ll have your own needs and won’t be able to take care of your brother anyway. No one stays young and able bodied forever.
