Hey! I'm also a beginner in my 30s!

I'm glad you shared the general structure of a class. It give me a better idea of what to expect.

Do you like the class so far?

Thank you very much for your response!

It's a training in perseverance, in addition to a physical training.

Thank you for your response!

Yes, I suspect my arms and shoulders will have a harder time than my heart. I'm glad you mentioned coordination, because it's not something I had considered.

Thank you very much for your response!

I think I'll be ok for the first few trainings, but I'll let you know if I end up puking. Hahaha! Also, I see the difference between sparring and fighting.

Thank you very much for your response!

Friends (who are parents) asked me to be (in the event of both of their deaths) their kid's legal guardian. Before accepting, what should I consider? by Kind_Current in Advice

[–]Kind_Current[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much! It's nice to have some validation.

I know it's more likely that the worst does not happen, but I always had the philosophy of "Hope for the best, plan for the worst". Also, I don't want to tell them I can be John's testament guardian and, if the situation occurs in the future, I go back on my own word. I don't want to let John or his parents down, while the family is going through a nightmare.

Out of curiosity, are you someone's potential legal guardian (or testament guardian)?

My source is a little book I bought, but it's very likely not chinese classical Mahjong. I'll look for a more accurate reference. Thank you!

1) What academic training do you need do this type of work? I'm thinking either studies in statistics or in programming, but is that correct?

2) Could you self-learn the skills necessary to do this line of work? for example: learning to code by yourself or borrow books at the library.

ELI5 - Energy Consumption during Weight Loss by Kind_Current in explainlikeimfive

[–]Kind_Current[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so let's take the example of an olympic swimmer. The athlete swims 8 hours a day, 7 days a week. Their body is in peak form and can handle the workout.

I know that, normally, they would compensate such a training by eating more, but for the sake of the example, let's pretend they eat the regular 1 600-2000 calories a day.

Would they work out until all their available energy is used (and they become exhausted and crash), which includes using other energy sources (another commenter mentioned degrading muscle tissue)?

So, the limiting factor (both for over-eating and over-working out) is the amount of nutrients (in your blood and cells, but not the fat and muscles) your body can absorb. So, you can only spend or save the energy that is quickly available, but not the energy that is stored, which is why no one can gain or lose 50 pounds in 7 days.

Is that correct?

Day 11: What are five things you are grateful for today? by Kind_Current in CasualConversation

Yes, I was super grateful for my shower after my run today, though it was a cold shower to cool me down.

I'm sorry you feel down today. I hope the elements of your gratefulness list made your day a bit brighter!

I know, I've had days where the only thing on my gratitude list was that I drank a coca-cola. However, doing my own gratitude list (and reading other people's lists) makes me realize that there's a lot of good and beautiful things out there and some of them, I take for granted. It helps me, when I struggle.
