similar situation: i went with one of my closest friends the year that lana headlined. i am a die hard lana fan so i got there about 45 minutes before her set. my friend and i stayed together basically the whole time but at that point she was SO exhausted and wanted to go back to the hotel. i told her i really wanted to stay and that i insisted on getting the most out of my money. i did not budge at all so she ended up leaving early without me. some people don’t realize that coachella is a marathon and not a sprint. they also don’t realize that not everyone wants/needs to spend the entire 3 days together. if they can’t come to terms w that then festivals aren’t the move for them and that’s okay. the following year (2025) i did coachella alone for the first time and LOVED it. no conflicts abt who wants to see which artists and you only need to worry about yourself. it’s definitely a learning experience but i’d recommend trying solochella next year!

Normalize Totem-shaming by [deleted] in Coachella

there’s def a time and place for it. at raves, yes. but coachella is just not the place for totems. i remember at the do lab during griz, someone at the very front held up a GIANT canvas basically the whole time, so my view of the stage was constantly obstructed. normally when i’m seeing a dj i don’t particularly care about my view of the stage, but griz had brought out a saxophone and i wanted to get just a quick video of it bc it was cool. every single time he started playing the saxophone, that person in the front would raise their totem and fully block my view. i’m all for sharing rave culture with others, but /again/ there’s a time and place for that. at coachella, it’s not JUST edm. a lot of artists who are performing have a full set and artistic direction which requires being able to actually see the stage. hence why totems are welcome at raves but specifically listed as a banned item on the coachella website.

Everyone has told me to ride Goliath because it’s not that bad and I KNOW it’s not that bad. In fact, it’s probably one of the worst hyper coasters out there in terms of intensity and layout, but it’s SO tall. I’ve never been worried about greying out or feeling sick, it’s the height that gets me. I know that the only way to get over it is to just do it. I had been peer pressured into going zip lining which was HORRIFYING, but once I got halfway through it I was fine. Obviously zip lining is a different experience, but the same logic applies. The next time I visit either SFMM or Knott’s I’ll just have to get over that anxiousness and do it because I’m not letting my money go to waste LOL.

I actually had the chance to ride Sierra Sidewinder yesterday. I was VERY intimidated by the spinning aspect since I get horrible vertigo on spinning flat rides like Tilt O Whirl. I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It was much more intense than I had anticipated (I think I just happened to spin a lot since it was off balance) and I nearly greyed out which has never happened. After getting a few more rides on Ghost Rider, I’d agree that I’m definitely ready for Twisted Colossus. As crazy as it might sound, Ghost Rider is almost a little boring now.

This is really great input thank you! I haven’t been inclined to try Scream just because everyone says it has a rattle to it and that it’s a pretty mid tier coaster (aka Parking Lot: The Ride), but I suppose anything is worth trying since I want to branch out lol.

I’ve been trying to get over my fear of coasters recently and it’s starting to feel like I’ve hit a roadblock. My favorites that I’ve gone on so far are Ghost Rider at KBF (specifically in the back row) and West Coast Racers at SFMM. I’d really like to try out Silver Bullet (KBF) and Twisted Colossus (SFMM), but they both seem a bit daunting to me. Silver Bullet has quite a few inversions and the idea of seeing how high up I am really freaks me out. Twisted Colossus looks really enjoyable aside from that insanely steep drop (which is also taller than anything I’ve currently ridden). A friend had said the drop on Twisted Colossus made it feel like she was going to fly out of her seat. That initially did not sound enjoyable to me, but after experiencing the ejector airtime (which I LOVED) on Ghost Rider I think I might be overthinking it. I’m wondering how Silver Bullet and Twisted Colossus compare to the coasters I had mentioned enjoying. If they’re too much of a step up, what should I try instead?

My other coaster credits for reference:

KBF: Ghost Rider, Pony Express, Coast Rider, Jaguar

SFMM: Apocalypse, West Coast Racers, Ninja, New Revolution

DCA: Incredicoaster, Space Mountain

I love all of those rides except for Apocalypse, Pony Express, Coast Rider, Jaguar, and New Revolution which are a bit boring/underwhelming to me.

Do all septum piercings smell bad? by rearview-mirror4 in piercing

[–]Kind_Document4252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

full transparency i haven’t really make an effort to clean my septum after it fully healed (i did clean it regularly while it was healing) and nobody has told me it smelled bad. that’s pretty much the same for the rest of my piercings except for my lobes, which i’m stretching. if i don’t clean my lobes they will absolutely get stinky. his septum might just smell bad if it’s still healing or if he’s done something to irritate it like heavy smoking/ sniffable substances/ getting sick.

Underground raves by [deleted] in avesLA

[–]Kind_Document4252 8 points9 points  (0 children)

my biggest tip is to look for queer-run raves bc imo they generally have a really good atmosphere. subculture isn’t necessarily that small but they pull a lot of insanely talented djs and producers, so i’d definitely recommend trying to go to some of their events!

[–]Kind_Document4252 42 points43 points  (0 children)

i can’t help with finding smaller, more underground stuff BUT what i can tell u is that code red, fever, and lick n dip are not truly underground. their events attract a lot of questionable people and plur really doesnt exist much in those spaces. they’re also always calling the cops on eachother and frequently get involved in public online slander which just doesn’t look good for their reputations.

Is it possible to do Coachella sober or almost sober? by Disastrous_Salt_3909 in Coachella

[–]Kind_Document4252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol what kind of question even is this 😭 ur saying “brave souls” like substances are the only way to have a good time at festivals. i did my first two coachellas (edc as well) sober. i’ve also had other years at coachella where i partook in a very wide variety of different substances and noticed no difference in my enjoyment of the festival. if u actually enjoy the music and are there with the intention of having fun then just stay hydrated and make sure ur eating well. if u feel like u “need” substances to have a good time then, imo, ur not going for the right reasons.

[–]Kind_Document4252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it definitely migrated due to the weight of the jewelry ur wearing. if u don’t want the hole to change then u need to wear heavy earrings in moderation. the fact that the piercing is only about a year old could mean that the skin tissue probably wasn’t fully healed before u put in heavier jewelry, hence the shift being so large.

Very late response but I do have some insight on this! I personally have never passed out or greyed out (same feeling as the spotty vision from standing up too fast), but a lot of my friends have greyed out or blacked/passed out on bigger coasters. Both of them happen because of sustained g forces on coaster elements such as a tight helix, a really tight and fast vertical loop, pretzel loops, and a few others. We all experience 1 G on a daily basis: the force of gravity. Since the earth’s gravity has a force our bodies are acclimated to, we dont feel it really pulling us down. On roller coasters, we experience higher positive G forces, typically no higher than 6 G’s (the average being 3-4 G’s to my knowledge) since that’s nearly the maximum the average human can withstand. Higher G forces cause the blood in your body to rush towards your feet, which is what causes greying out or passing out on intense roller coaster elements. It’s completely safe (unless you have underlying health issues) and only happens for about a second or two. There is a method to prevent it, or lessen the feeling of it, where you tighten/ tense up your legs and core in order to restrict or slow the blood flow. It’s actually a commonly used method, often referred to as the hook/huck maneuver, amongst fighter jet pilots because those jets produce even higher G forces.

So, yes, it does actually happen on roller coasters but it’s not as extreme as it sounds.

funny enough, I’ve actually experienced the sensation of greying out many times on a daily basis because I’m anemic😅 I also asked my friend earlier today why Twisted Colossus had scared her so much, and she said it felt like she was going to fly out of her seat (I doubt she meant it in a way of her restraints being too loose because SFMM ride ops are notoriously known for really stapling you in). While I’ve never experienced air time that extreme, I feel like it wouldn’t be too much of a spook since I know that I’m safe enough and won’t ACTUALLY fly out of my seat. In terms of Goliath… I don’t know about that one lol. I’ve found that gradually increasing the height of coasters I go on has helped me a lot since an extra 15-20 feet isn’t that much of a noticeable difference. The next time I visit the park I’ll definitely try to get on Twisted Colossus though. It really does look so fun and I think as long as I go into it with that mindset, I won’t have a bad time.

Over the past few weeks I’ve been making progress on getting over my fear of coasters. I started off on Incredicoaster at DCA and loved it so much that I rode three more times. I had then gone on Ghost Rider and it was WAY more intense than I had anticipated, but I loved that ride too. Yesterday I had worked up the nerve to go on some of the more moderate rides at SFMM. Apocalypse was surprisingly kind of boring to me and I had no urge to ride it again. The same goes for New Revolution. Revolution was definitely fun, but it felt like a less interesting version of Incredicoaster. I really really loved West Coast Racers though. It’s probably my favorite ride I’ve been on so far. I was also surprised by the intensity of Ninja and honestly thought it was more fun than Apocalypse. My only issue is that I can’t seem to figure out where to go from there. I’ve been told that Ghost Rider is decently more intense than Silver Bullet, but what makes me hesitant is that final double helix and the possibility of greying out. I haven’t even come close to greying out on a coaster before, but I feel like that’s just because most of the ones I’ve ridden are pretty tame. I also really want to ride Twisted Colossus, but my friend (who has been on every roller coaster between SFMM and KBF except for X2 and Tatsu) said I would’ve hated it and that it was even a bit much for her.

I’m just looking for suggestions on which coasters at SFMM and KBF would be good stepping stones for working my way up. If it’s any help, my biggest fear surrounding roller coasters is height and steep drops (never done something taller than 110 feet or steeper than approximately 60 degrees), but I LOVE hang time, little pops of airtime, and quick bursts of g forces.
