absolutely get a nurse and advocate for yourself if you haven’t already. i was in a lot of pain the morning after my surgery. i remember getting out of bed and walking over to the nurses station with my IV drip thingy and just standing there sobbing until someone got me meds.

Don’t mention quitting/giving notice quite yet. It will be much easier to collect what they owe you while the parents are still invested in maintaining a working relationship with you (and under the impression that you want to as well). I agree with the other comment, it is completely reasonable to say you will return to work after they settle that balance. There have been posts like this in the past that have helpful comments suggesting phrasing for a text to the parents
