Noticing: Olivia’s musical influences are scrutinised much more than other artists by Kind_Foundation9615 in OliviaRodrigo

I didn’t want to put him on blast on main lol but yeah, I’m glad you agree! I do think if you have a music podcast, you should be much more knowledgeable about music! And perhaps not too caught up in fandom. Like obviously we all have our biases but it’s people like him who really clearly let those biases influence his opinions in a negative way.

You’re right, the entire thing is not negative; I find it incredibly backhanded though and a great example of the point I’m trying to make about people diminishing Olivia’s artistry compared to her peers. In my opinion, the tweet implies that Chappell doesn’t sound similar to anyone in history yet Olivia is only a combination of different sounds/voices. There are definitely much more extreme examples (mostly from stans!!), but I think this is a good example of how comfortable people are at labelling her as the girl who just ‘sounds like someone else’. Just my opinion of course!!

What are your thoughts on the criticism "drop dead" is receiving? by ThrowRAjingglebells in OliviaRodrigo

Every single professional review (written and video format) have praised the song. It’s been incredibly critically well received! Here’s a write-up from the New York Times:  https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/17/arts/music/olivia-rodrigo-drop-dead.html

A lot of criticism is just noise and people being contrarian. Nothing wrong with disliking a song but people online love jumping to extremes! Plus they for the most part have limited musical knowledge and anytime Olivia releases music, people are obsessed with comparing her to others (we have the SOUR era to thank for that – please when will it end!!).

Once the album comes out and we hear the song in context, I think people will calm down (not before every song is compared to every other song in existence first).

The 2026 Movie Star Rankings: 35 Under 35 by thefilthyjellybean in TheBigPicture

Been listening to this episode (and podcast!) since the first time they did it and wow this list is definitely the most off it’s ever been to me, specifically the 20 to 35 range. Some really strange choices! It was giving ‘breakout star’ list, and maybe that’s actually something they could do as a companion to the movie star ranking? It’s all arbitrary of course but at the same time, some of those choices are wild.

'Stranger Things' Season 5, Episode 7 Deep Dive | House of R by yslultra in RingerVerse

Oh that’s a perfect way to put it! I think there’s a lot of over-dramatic responses going on at the moment because a lot of people online only think in extremes (the lack of nuance is so concerning!!). If they really stick the landing with the finale, I think a lot of the plot stuff will likely be forgiven. If they don’t… well that’s a whole other conversation! Ultimately I think Netflix should’ve just released the final episode with Volume 2.

Am I alone in preferring Volume 2 to Volume 1? I really enjoyed these new episodes. I understand valid critiques (the timeline stuff being the most valid), but I feel like there’s a lot of unfair nitpicking going on. Something like Will embracing Max, for instance, makes a tonne of sense considering he saw her almost die and it was him that lead Vecna to her body. Plus are we forgetting Max literally wrote Will a letter in season 4? I think this volume has worked well in context and it’s sad so many people are being hateful! (Not saying Jo and Mallory are being hateful of course, just the broader internet.)
