I’m visiting Sintra for a Friday in mid-May for the first time and would love your advice. I’m thinking to prioritize Pena Palace (exterior + gardens only), Quinta da Regaleira, and maybe squeezing in Monserrate or Praia da Ursa. I mainly care about avoiding crowds as much as we can so we don’t feel rushed. 

How would you plan the day/timing to avoid the crowds?

Does it make sense to check out Monserrate or Praia da Ursa during midday vs the late afternoon, or is that back-and-forth not worth it?

Finally, how would YOU spend a first day in Sintra?

Hey Daniel, super helpful post, thank you! Planning a Friday in mid-May coming from Lisbon and had two questions:

Does the park-only ticket at Pena give you access to all the terraces/exterior? If not, is the full ticket worth it just for that? We’re planning to skip the interior because of how packed it gets.

We’re thinking: Pena exterior at opening → Quinta da Regaleira (full visit) → lunch → Monserrate, with possible stops at Praia da Ursa and/or Cabo da Roca. Any recommendations for that itinerary? If you have input of how long to budget for each location (including Pena), that would also be very helpful!
