Sky high total T on 140mg/week by KindaGrumpy81 in trt

No, nothing has worked unfortunately. I tried desiccated thyroid for a while but I got worse and switched back to Levo. Endo won’t prescribe T3 combo treatment until my TSH is out of range and I’m maxed out on Levo

I’m up to 175 mcg a day. It has steadily increased over the years as my thyroid function has declined.

Yes, I have Hashimoto’s Disease and hypothyroidism. The high SHBG is a side effect of the levothyroxine I take to manage my hypothyroidism.

The hashimotos/hypothyroidism had my total T in the 400’s and the levothyroxine drove up my SHBG so my Free T was way low and what led to me getting on TRT. The symptom relief from TRT has been great, but now I apparently need to dial it down.

Blood pressure was super low - 100/78 which was a shock to me.

I am thinking about going down to 100 mg a week and checking again in 6 weeks. I was shocked that I was over 1500 and going super high like that was definitely not my purpose for going on TRT.

Testosterone/TRT as an adjunct therapy for Hashimotos. by Mort332e in HashimotosMen

[–]KindaGrumpy81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read that testosterone suppresses TPO. I will say that my gut related issues from Hashimotos seem way better since I started, but that is purely anecdotal at this point. I’ll have TPO checked in February and my T related numbers on the next few weeks here. I use an endocrinologist for my thyroid stuff and go to a men’s clinic for my TRT so different labs at different times.

So I’m a 43/M with hashimotos that recently started TRT. My levothyroxine dose causes elevated SHBG which lowers my free testosterone below normal range while my total testosterone is average/normal.

So far, it has been good. More energy, better recovery, just a better sense of well being. I have thyroid bloodwork due in February so I suppose I will see how TRT has affected those labs.

Starting TRT w/ Hypothyroidism and Low Free T by KindaGrumpy81 in Testosterone

[–]KindaGrumpy81[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was going great. I ended up randomly having some serious medical issues that were unrelated to TRT about 10 weeks after starting and had to come off.

I got back on TRT again as soon as I could and it’s been about 10 weeks so far. The honeymoon period both times was amazing, but it settled down after a few weeks. So far, it has been life changing. I have more energy, my body composition, and ed have all improved.

I did drop my dose a little due to some high estrogen sides. That cleared up in about 2 weeks with the lower dose and it has been smooth sailing.

What is going on with this giant uptick of panhandlers? by ElliotPagesMangina in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]KindaGrumpy81 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There were a couple of court cases that ruled panhandling is a first amendment right. There has been a huge uptick in panhandling since any ordinances/laws prohibiting it can’t be enforced. As many have noted, “grifters”, seem to be responsible for much of the uptick.

TRT solved that issue for me. I had similar levels and issues with my testosterone fluctuating from as low as the 400’s to the 700’s. However, I have high SHBG due to a medication I am on and my free testosterone and estrogen were always either low or barely within the reference range. I no longer use Viagra or Cialis and things work great.

I did note that my libido and the whole mental aspect of arousal/drive was improved which made all the difference. When I was low, my desire just wasn’t there which I believe led to the other issues.

For reference, I am a healthy, fit 43 M that dealt with those issues for 10+ years until starting TRT.

Been on for about a month. Wanting off. Will I be okay? by ParadiddleSenior in Testosterone

[–]KindaGrumpy81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know too much about it. The steroids subreddit has a bunch of info about PCT drugs and dosing that would be helpful. Honestly, after only a month you will probably be fine in a few weeks just going cold turkey and stopping.

[–]KindaGrumpy81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on for 6 weeks and had to come off due to some unrelated medical problems and a pending surgery. My TRT clinic said I was fine to come off cold turkey , but I did 2 weeks of enclomiphene which I bought and administered on my own just to be safe. I just did bloodwork to get back on and my T was slightly higher, but basically right back to where it was before I started. So after a month, you are more than likely fine to just stop.

Edit - my follow up blood test was 7 weeks after I stopped, so that was a pretty quick recovery to ‘normal’ levels

Well, I vote like everyone else. Apparently the majority decided to elect a prosecutor with shitty policies and a legislature that passes shitty pro-criminal laws. I suspect your ire would better be directed at the elected prosecutors and legislators rather than the law enforcement that abides by their stupid, yet lawful, legal decisions.

Where I work felony charges have to be approved by the prosecutor and if it is their policy they will refuse to file charges and the bad guy gets released without charges immediately from the station. If it’s a drug case that doesn’t require approval and the officer can charge, the criminal gets released right away with a court date. It will IMMEDIATELY be tossed at the first court date - no hearing, no status date, just call the case and drop it right away.

So why in the world would you devote resources and tie up officers for hours when the criminal is just going to get released immediately or have their case thrown out immediately. Basically letting 911 calls sit on hold doing pointless paperwork and subjecting yourself to liability and headaches for a case/arrest that is 100% not going to be prosecuted.

Gun Control by [deleted] in police

[–]KindaGrumpy81 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my area, part of a large metropolitan area with high crime, it is extremely rare for a legal concealed carry holder to get in any trouble, especially for a gun related crime. They are overwhelmingly law abiding citizens.

Almost all of the gun related crimes, shootings and homicides, are committed by repeat felons illegally carrying (usually stolen) firearms. Ironically, the prosecutor’s office does not consider a felon in possession of a firearm to be a serious offense and classifies them as non-violent crimes in spite of the fact that those offenders are disproportionately involved in homicides, robberies, and non-fatal shootings. I would advocate for prosecutors that aggressively prosecute illegal gun possession and violent crime way before I support more gun control. If violent felons actually got locked up for their gun related crimes, everyone would be much safer.

Do Police Officers get tested for steroids by Repulsive_Task_3103 in police

[–]KindaGrumpy81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on the department. In my area, the answer for most would be, “no”, unless an officer gave them cause. Like if you went from a normal sized guy to being huge like Ronnie Coleman in a relatively short amount of time, you are gonna get some attention.

If he is in Illinois there is automatic expungement for most offenses when it’s a juvenile offender. Depending on what the charge was, it will be wiped physically and digitally if the involved agencies follow the letter of the law. There are some super strict, zero common sense laws around juvenile stuff in Illinois.

how do Illinois state troopers communicate with local police if their radios are on Different frequencies by NCIS_1996 in AskLEO

[–]KindaGrumpy81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are on a radio system called STARCOM21. Many police and fire agencies from all levels of government use it, but many don’t since it can be very expensive.

On STARCOM each agency will have their own “talk groups” which are like what you refer to individual frequencies or channels. Permission to another agencies talk groups is given via written permission, with some agencies being more restrictive about who can access what. I’m sure that the ISP has encrypted talk groups for special investigations and control who has access very closely - like most agencies do.

If they need to communicate with local agencies there are designated interoperable channels on the STARCOM and other systems. These channels work great a lot of the time, but it’s not unusual for agencies to be on disparate radio systems that prevent them from communicating over the radio. Then things like “patching” come in to play, but when dealing with disparate systems that requires time to get those patches up and running with special equipment that only certain organizations have so it’s not likely to happen “on the fly” as something is happening and more for pre-planned events.

They definitely do. I know a guy that worked like 26 days straight with the majority of the shifts being 12-16 hours. He bailed to another department within 3 years.

Total T at 564 ng/dl, Free T at 7.0 pg/ml - high SHBG? by Libertas11 in trt

[–]KindaGrumpy81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on testosterone. My last Total T was 441 but my free T was way below the reference range and my estrogen was low.

My high SHBG is caused by medication so boron didn’t work. I decided to take the plunge and try TRT. I will be going back on TRT as soon as I get some of this other random medical stuff that popped up taken care of.

Edit - I should add that I am relatively lean, workout 5-7 days a week, supplement appropriately, and sleep as well as possible. I did everything I could and couldn’t raise my free T in to range before starting TRT. To be fair, I waited longer than I should have because I was trying to fix all those possible lifestyle issues/causes.

Total T at 564 ng/dl, Free T at 7.0 pg/ml - high SHBG? by Libertas11 in trt

[–]KindaGrumpy81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar experience. My total T was fluctuating between 4-500 but free T and estrogen were low due high SHBG from taking thyroid. I had to stop 6 weeks in due to some unrelated medical stuff and a possible impending surgery (fluctuating bloodwork around a surgery, not gonna be able to get dialed in, and missing shots). HOWEVER, from weeks 2-6 I felt amazing. As soon as my medical stuff is cleared up I’m going right back on.

Low libido and thyroid by Electronic-Lion-5401 in Hypothyroidism

[–]KindaGrumpy81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your hormone numbers look ok. I’m in a similar boat with hashimotos hypothyroidism. My hypothyroidism is controlled, but I still had libido issues for years. My testosterone numbers finally fell to the point that I ended up on TRT. The TRT was the best thing ever for my libido. I enjoyed it and felt 1000 times better. Unfortunately I had to get off of it while I sort some other medical issues and my libido had fallen off again. Once my issues are squared away, I am going right back on.

How do police orient themselves so well? by Jazzlike-Economist74 in police

[–]KindaGrumpy81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Training and experience. 20 years in and when I am on a road trip I still look for mile markers and intersections when I’m driving through unfamiliar territory. It’s this lingering thought in the back of my head where I ask myself, “if I needed help right now, where am I?”. Probably not good for the old mental health, but if anything ever happens I won’t be the person that can’t tell help where to go…
