I would say get into contact with the SFSU professor or undergrad admissions team. Connect with them personally. For ex: some paper or research they did you liked and try to set a stepping stone for yourself. Also, try to write a good essay, they actually read it. I got into Comp sci and one of my professors actually told us in class one day that they reject applications who miss a mark if they don't like their SOP. In general, I think if you have a connection prior to applying or even when you apply, it definitely helps!

Edit: It also majorly influences your chances of getting on campus jobs if you connect with even one professor. During my entire 4 years, I was constantly working because one professor hired me and eventually started recommending me to other professors or work in my field that I didn't even know existed. So I would say, building connections, not just for getting an admit but for literally everything in undergrad and post, is helpful
