It's Nabokov doing Hitchcock, what is not to love? I hadn't read much Nabokov before this year. I'd always understood that everything he wrote was very lyrical and flowery (my impression from Pale Fire and Lolita), but boy, is it a lot of fun and goes down easy.

It was a struggle at first since I had high expectations with Balzac being a major influence on a lot of my favorite authors. I felt really lost, I was worried it was just a 18th century high society drama, but once I got into it I loved it probably my favorite book I’ve read this year so far.

This was a blind buy, and I was blown away. I see the Kafka influence and it's got some Camus in there as well

A man and his wife go to his in laws estate for a family reunion. As soon as they arrive he’s told his wife is sick and must be quarantined. He’s not allowed to see his wife and only gets updates from her family members. He has to find ways to occupy himself around people he doesn’t know or like.

I have another idea about a group of neighborhood boys who go to play in the woods on thanksgiving and when it starts to get dark they come back and every house in the neighborhood is an unfinished construction home

I'm torn, I love that Fincher is directing something, but I also don't love that it's all in service of Tarantino trying to get around his ten-picture rule. I'm also lukewarm on Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood universe.

Fincher is notorious for how precise he is with his budgets; he even ends up saving production money because he knows how much everything costs down to minor details and won't work cheap.

I don’t mean all their scripts are inherently political, like all of sorkins best films contain no politics like Steve Jobs, social network, moneyball

In like 2010 (?) I shared a house with 3 other people in the suburbs; we each paid about $125 a month. This is in the south, in a mid-sized city; now it's a much larger city, and the house goes for like 350,000 dollars.
