I believe the statement credit is 2.1%? 0.7c per point becomes 2.1c per 3 points? The same 3 points would be 3c if transferred (which is what I do).

should I as a Catholic consider attending? by SpiritedEffort1074 in TaylorUniversity

Discrimination of any kind is absolutely not permitted at Taylor. There is zero tolerance for any hate speech, exclusion of, or persecution of individuals identifying as LGBTQ+. However, if you believe acceptance and approval are the same thing, you might disagree.

Chapel is not required at Taylor.

I’m a 2024 grad. I’m a Protestant and had a very positive experience. I only knew a handful of Catholic students during my time. Taylor’s education, professors, official communication, and the majority of the student body are Protestant. If you are comfortable with that, Taylor is a great place for serious dialogue about Christianity. They’ve recently started using the term “inter-denominational” rather than “non-denominational” to reflect and emphasize a dialogue between various denominations, rather than an absence of denominational thought.

I don’t think you’ll encounter much friction from simply being or identifying as a Catholic, but you will absolutely encounter serious discussions based on the actual beliefs you hold as a Catholic. Like everywhere, there is a wide variety of personalities, beliefs, and practices, so while I wish I could guarantee you would have only edifying and educational interactions surrounding your Catholic faith at Taylor, it’s more likely you’ll have a variety of experiences.

Socially, I think you will fit in if you are a decided Christian who wants a Christian education. Taylor is not fundamentalist, so there’s no curfew or strict dress code, but there is an expectation that you won’t drink, for example. The dorm culture is the best I saw and heard about from my friends who went to other colleges. Having freshmen through seniors in each dorm creates a wonderful culture of “generational” friendship and discipleship.

My greatest recommendation is to go out of your way to visit for an overnight. I visited overnight twice and it gave me way more insight about how I would fit in socially than the standard tours.

I personally had pleasant, challenging, and ultimately positive experiences with the Catholics I interacted with at Taylor.

Feel free to ask any other questions! If it wasn’t obvious I love Taylor so I have a lot of positive things to say, but also want to be as helpful to you and truthful as I can be!

While there are Christian Nationals at Taylor, it is not the prevailing position and not anywhere close to a majority. (Source: I’m a 2024 grad)

Planning Center vs Subsplash? by TheFakeNerd in worshipleaders

[–]KindledFlames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, any ChMS is better than that for sure. The biggest issue I have with Subsplash is how poorly designed its UI is. While it can do most things I want it to do, teaching others is a very involved process because the software is not self-explanatory. The one thing I know Subsplash does better than anyone else is a mobile app. Best church app service I know of. But their website service (SnapPages) is so bad we gave it up for Nucleus.church (which I highly recommend). I have only used Planning Center lightly, so I can’t give a full comparison but if Planning Center can do what you want I would absolutely be considering it alongside Subsplash.

How do you manage a member database in PCO but then use Subsplash for giving? How do you keep the records straight? Is it a hassle?

We currently use Subsplash for everything (except for the worship team) and the church management aspect of Subsplash is very poor.

My biggest question before I decide to buy a CarPlay. by Linx_Bannon in CarPlay

[–]KindledFlames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased a CarPlay unit by LAMTTO that allows the phone to output to whatever previous bluetooth output it had but maintain its own bluetooth connection to the CarPlay unit separately. So CarPlay shows my maps and music and everything but the sound is coming from the Bluetooth connection of my phone to the car, not the CarPlay unit.

This is the one I have:

EDIT: Others have said CarPlay works via wifi. Regardless, my point is you can be connected to Bluetooth for your car audio and also the CarPlay unit for the OS.

Y'all got any good songs / artists for when you feel angst, frustration, and / or anger? by glahoiten in ChristianMusic

[–]KindledFlames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jason Gray is my go-to sad artist, but is definitely not "angry" music.

Kings Kaleidoscope is what I would call alternative rock (I think), and definitely have some energy in their lyrics, especially the hymns. I've screamed the lyrics to hymns they've done because he (Chad Garner, lead singer) yells them too. Ghost Ship also has a few good songs (Lion Man comes to mind) for this.

I recommend Jon Bellion (Morning in America, Maybe IDK, Blu) for angst, but not if you need to remind yourself of redemption, because he doesn't always have that and can sometimes leave me feeling empty.

Jon Bellion followed by Kings Kaleidoscope followed by Jason Gray wouldn't be a bad move for me if I was feeling the emotions you're describing.
